Tragedy recently struck our family when my wife, Mila, unexpectedly died. Easing the devastating pain were the medical professionals in the Intensive Care Unit at Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi. During my wife’s two weeks in the ICU, I was most appreciative of the dedication and devotion of the nurses who were taking care of Mila. I have always had the utmost respect and admiration for nurses and their profession. Now, even more so, I feel that nurses are angels put here on earth to care for those who can no longer care for themselves.
I am extremely thankful for the wonderful care that Mila received in the Pali Momi ICU, and I would like to recognize these angels for their selfless service and untiring dedication to those entrusted to their care, and specifically for what they did for Mila and our family: Pam, Bernie, Lilibeth, Kevin, Greg, Val, Ariceli, Lori, Claudia, Emma, Lorna, Lee, Ryan, Lisa, Amy, Lani, Les, Letty, and Drs. Maher, Wong, Bruno and Ahu.
My family sends you all our most heartfelt thanks for what you did for our wife and mother.

Our nurses, physicians and supporting staff really are the heart and soul of Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi. And you’re right, they are all extremely dedicated, passionate about what they do and deeply care about the individuals and families they serve. Your kind words were so inspiring to us all! Mahalo for recognizing our staff!”
The Pali Momi staff could not contact all the people who assisted Mila, but those who gave consent to be mentioned are: Lori Henry, Pamela Reuben-Eubanks, Kevin Speyer, Lorna Tubania, Bernadette Chaves and Elizabeth McCall.

Until you use their services you cannot fully appreciate them.
One afternoon my 3-year-old grandson suddenly developed a very high fever and had a seizure. 911 was utilized and he was transported to the local hospital. It appeared to be touch and go for a while, but his fever did drop to an acceptable level. Later, at the hospital, I had the chance to thank one of the EMTs, who was busily washing her ambulance. I wish to express my sincere mahalo to the 911 operator, the Mililani Mauka Fire Station, the EMS from Wahiawa and the ER doctor and staff at Wahiawa General Hospital.
With the care provided my grandson was almost himself four hours later munching on his favorite, a nectarine.

EMT Shirley Ann Cazinha and paramedic Marc Moriguchi made up your ambulance team.
“It is not surprising that these two individual’s actions have been acknowledged,” says emergency district chief Norman Hahn. “They are very highly skilled and show a great deal of compassion in the line of duty.”
