I was with my five grandchildren, ages 8, 6, 5, 4 and 2, at Pokai Bay for a day of swimming and playing in the sand. As we started to leave, I placed my black folder on the roof of the car with all my documents: birth certificate, state ID, driver’s license, bank card, passport, EBT card, you name it, even cash.
We drove off to get something to eat and I noticed the black folder was nowhere to be found. I drove back to the beach, checked everywhere, no luck, very sad. I started to pray, blessed whomever found my folder. It felt good to have comfort through faith.
My APPLAUSE goes to Mr. Joey Vidal for his honesty and kindness. He contacted the police, but I had not filed a report. So he found my daughter’s address in the papers and showed up at her doorstep. I happened to be there at the time. Joey Vidal, you’re my angel.
Humbly and sincerely, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Dear Faafetai,
Joey Vidal, who just opened a smooth-ie shop at Schofield Barracks, says he was in the right place at the right time.
“I was on my way to work and saw this folder in the middle of the road,” he says.
“I stopped and picked it up, and it looked pretty important with all these papers, so I called the police. They didn’t have any report of lost documents, so after work I dropped it off at the address I found.
“It was a small thing for me to do for someone who really needed those documents.”

While visiting relatives in Honolulu, at 2:30 a.m. we were awakened by a phone call from my son in California informing us that Dad was somewhere on Kinau Street. He gave us a phone number to call in order to contact the person who had stopped Dad, who was walking in his pajamas and obviously lost. This was the first time that this has happened since Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
I would like to commend Mr. Donovan Grace of Kinau Vista for his quick thinking and handling of this situation. Had he not stopped Dad at that point, we might have searched everywhere for him, not having a clue where to start.
Thanks to Mr. Grace’s patient questioning, he was able to obtain a phone number from Dad, and we were able to go and pick him up without incident. Little did we know he had wandered almost two miles away.
Donovan Grace certainly saved our Honolulu visit from becoming a possible total fiasco to a very memorable one. We thank God that he was in the area at the time.
