Easing The Load For A Young Family

I took my wife and four young children (ages 10, 7, 3 and 1) to Las Vegas on the red-eye. When we arrived at the airport, I unloaded all of our bags, two car seats and one booster seat. As I paid the taxi driver, a wonderful person wearing a uniform helped load our things onto a baggage cart. She helped us move everything over to the agricultural inspection station and then over to the check-in line. I asked the airline agent who she was, and learned that she is a janitor/custodian who works for the state. I did get a chance to say thanks, and I also learned that her name is Judy Debebar. I had intended to try to contact her supervisor, but after we got back from the trip the holidays came up, then one or another of my kids got sick, so I never got around to it. Though she probably does things like that all the time, could you please let Judy and her boss know that her kindness was greatly appreciated? Even though so much time has gone by, I haven’t forgotten what that nice lady did for my family.

“I saw that they had four children and I knew they needed help,” says Judy Debebar, a custodian at the airport for 13 years. “That’s what we’re here for. Sometimes people offer money when we give them assistance. I always tell them, no need. I do this out of aloha.”

Aloha, my name is Marchell Tugadi and I read your APPLAUSE every chance I get. So this morning I wanted to let you know about a single/unwed mother’s dinner I was invited to. It was given by Sharon Young, who attends Word of Life on Queen Street. The night of the dinner is something I shall not forget for a long time. The women, about 10 to 14 of them, made new friends, shared pictures of their children, shared laughter and tears; some even shared the reasons why they became single moms. All the women who attended had one thing in common: They came back to God and church. Others, like myself, shared how a tragic thing turned me away from God, only to return to find forgiveness.
So on that day Sharon Young brought us together. She showed us we are very much loved by the people around us and we are greatly loved by God!

Sharon Young had tears in her eyes when she heard your words. “I became a single parent at age 33,” she says. “My husband died and left me with three children. It was my dream to use my experience to turn lives around for the better. The idea of this dinner was born but could not have been completed without a lot of help.
