I unwittingly put a clipped together stack of bank deposits and mail on top of my car and drove off. I discovered my loss in the bank parking lot and drove home thinking that I’d just forgotten everything there.
With a groan, I got back in the car to retrace my steps. As I prepared to leave, standing in our driveway was a kind gentleman looking for our address.
Northrup Castle, walking along Kaneohe Bay Drive, picked up the lost envelopes scattered along the side of the road. He walked the half-mile up our very steep street to return them to me!
Words cannot express the relief I felt when he handed the envelopes to me. He was so humble and gracious, and kept saying that the walk was good because he needed the exercise! Turns out he is a descendant of the Castle family!
Thank you so very much Mr. C, you are an angel!

As an ongoing brain cancer patient since 1996 and a paraplegic with very limited walking skills, I “rolled” into the Waikiki branch of First Hawaiian Bank to ask for two counter checks minutes prior to the bank’s closing. Earlier I had run a few errands, including going to the pharmacy.
Later that evening there was a knock at my door. Teller Jason Quest had my pharmacy medications which I had somehow forgotten at the branch. I would like to add that one of these medications keeps me alive. Without this medicine that night, I would undoubtedly have had a grand mal seizure and gone into a coma. Truly, I am not being overly dramatic. Jason walked the several blocks from the bank to my home to bring me my medications, which I did not even realize were missing. It is highly likely that I owe this young man my life.
Jason was quite humble regarding his “good Samaritanism” and would not accept a glass of water, a cup of coffee or take a seat. I am not in a position either physically or financially to consider any way to thank Jason, as he deserves to be thanked other than to write to you and ask that you also commend him for going out of his way on a Friday evening after work to aid a client whom he had met for the first time an hour or so prior. It is my sincere hope that Jason Quest will be recognized for his altruism and for being the good Samaritan from whom all people might take example.

Jason Quest says it was a pleasure talking to youthat afternoon as you took care of your bank business. “After closing we found the bag of medications,” he says, “and I felt that perhaps our conversation distracted him, so I made a point of getting the pharmacy bag back to him. He’s written a wonderful thank you letter and forwarded a copy to my supervisor. Jim is not just a customer, he’s a friend for life!”
