Fighting Fires And Also Floods

Aloha e Pamela,
During our recent storm it was literally raining in my kitchen and leaking water in my living room. I could no longer keep up with the amount of water coming in my home. By 8:30 p.m. I knew that I was sunk and would not be able to wait for my friends to help me cover the roof the next day.
Kaneohe’s firefighters came to my rescue. The first red watch team headed by Capt. George Kaopuiki, Kevin Kahale, Edward Call and Glen Camp worked for two-and-a-half hours nailing roofing material on my roof without good lighting in the pouring rain. Joseph Souza vacuumed up the water.
I would like to publicly thank them again for going beyond the call of duty to bail me out. I think of them fondly when it rains now.
Blessings to them and their ohana this new year.

Dear Roberta,
“That’s our job,” says Capt. George Kaopuiki. “We go out and do our best to bring safety and comfort to people in the worst situations. It was very kind of Roberta to write her letter. We always try to leave a positive image of what we represent.”
Dear Pamela,
After a visit to my doctor’s office, I went to pick up two large and heavy paper bags. I use a walker to get around, so I grabbed a bag with each hand and headed toward the door.
A patient who was waiting to see the doctor first opened the door for me. As I thanked her, she suddenly grabbed the two bags and carried them all the way to my car, which was parked on the opposite side of the building.
She then placed the bags into the trunk for me. I thanked her again, and she smiled as she walked back to the doctor’s office. Since it was lightly raining, I didn’t get a chance to ask her name.
Please give her a SPECIALAPPLAUSE for her kindness and thoughtfulness.

Dear Craig,
Your Good Samaritan was Marilyn Lee, who is happy to have been in the right place at the right time.
Dear Pamela,
I belong to Toastmasters, which is a public speaking organization, and I was representing my club in a humorous speech contest. I travel by bus and always allow an extra hour to be safe, but on this day there was no bus. I began to panic.
I realized the only way I was going to make it to the contest was to hitchhike. I couldn’t believe I was doing this!
Because of the nature of my speech, I was wearing a sexy, black, sequined dress, and there I was sticking my thumb out in that dress! Only no one was stopping. I became discouraged and, also, felt foolish wearing that dress. I sadly came to accept I wasn’t going to make it to the contest. I went back to the bus stop and waited for the bus to take me home.
Then a car stopped! He was an angel named Mike who saw me hitching at the freeway onramp.
I felt safe with him, but was not out of the woods as far as making it to the contest. I arrived a little bit late, but luckily, the contest got a late start. I was feeling traumatized, but I competed and then I ended up feeling elated because I won first place! Now I will move on to compete at a higher level of competition.
The subject of my humorous speech was aging, and this ordeal would have aged me if not for an angel named Mike!
