Dear Pamela,
My name is Kathy, and my boyfriend Rick has the most wonderful friend named Bobbi Schroeder, who truly defines the meaning of Aloha. She makes hand-crocheted quilts and gives them to the veterans’ hospital as well as the folks in her senior community. They are beautiful and take a long time to make, and she expects nothing in return. During the holidays she has the most incredible display with angels, bears, reindeer, every kind of moving, dancing, talking dolls. She passes out cards and bags of gifts to adults and the children. She also is on a fixed income, but that does not stop her from living Aloha 365 days a year.

Dear Kathy and Rick,
Retiree Bobbi Schroeder says she does it all out of gratitude. “God made it possible for me to live here,” she says. “Even at an early age, growing up in Sacramento, Calif., I used to listen to Hawaii Calls on the radio. I’ve been here six years now, and I will do whatever I can to keep the Aloha Spirit alive. I’ve received so much through hard times and good times. I want people to know your dreams can come true with positive thinking!”
Dear Pamela,
I just wanted to thank Paul Perreira of Ideal Construction, who took the time to stop his truck on the side of the road, under the H-3 Loop (the off-ramp that comes from Halawa Valley) and retrieve my little blue wallet.
I had put my purse on my van roof and did not realize that the zipper was open until I got home.
I was kind of depressed because my driver’s license was in that case - the one with my SSN.
I sent him a thank-you card, called his company to let a supervisor know what a great employee they have, but I know that having this publication will make his family very proud of him too.

Dear C.M.,
Paul Perreira was on the job when we called, but his supervisor Shawn Enos had plenty of praise for the field worker. “Paul is a great employee. He does everything from laying pipe to pavement. I remember him talking about the wallet. He wanted to return it as soon as possible. He didn’t think of it as a good deed, just something that needed to be done.”
