After purchasing a new car battery, I attempted to change it myself. As I tried to perform tasks without the right tools, a man came up and offered to help. I did not get his name, but he said he was a carpenter, and he had some leftover streaks of paint in his hair. He worked really hard to maneuver the wires and bolts with the few tools I had.
Finally my van started. He went off to shop, and I didn’t have a chance to hug him or say thank you. He was a local guy who recently spent a bunch of money to take care of his dog. He is a carpenter who just finished renovating a condo in town.
I hope my son also will be the kind of man who doesn’t just walk by without offering assistance.

Help, help! My husband dropped his driver’s license at Aloha Tower and didn’t even know it. A nice couple appeared at our door and had the license. We were so overwhelmed that we didn’t even get their names. We wanted to give them a little something, but before we knew it, they were gone. I tried to go after them, but they had already driven off. I would love to get in touch with them.

The aloha spirit is alive and well in Kaneohe! A few days ago my daughter was dismayed to discover that her hubcap had fallen off somewhere. A new set of hubcaps wasn’t in the budget, so you can imagine my delight at seeing the hubcap strategically placed at the Ahuimanu Road/Ahuimanu Place intersection. How thoughtful of someone to take the time to put it where we could find it!
Today, after shopping at Longs, I left my purse in the shopping cart. I returned quickly to find the cart gone, but some wonderful person had left my purse with a Longs checker.
Minutes later I passed a man whose car was stalled in the intersection in front of Kaneohe Fire Station. I felt bad that I could-n’t help, but seconds later, three strong, young men were pushing the car to a safer location. Mahalo to all of the kind folks in our community.
