Grateful For Good Folks Among Us

Aloha Pamela,
Last week our family was lucky to be able to finally see our son when his ship stopped at Pearl Harbor. This was not a planned stop, so we had little notice. I was told that usually a list of family names is submitted in order to get on base, but because his arrival was so last minute, it didn’t go out. We called dozens of numbers to help us get on base, but not one agency could help us.
While we stood on the other side of a fence and watched his ship, I finally called the Port of Operations. I didn’t get the gentleman’s name who helped us, but I want to say thank you so much. He went out of his way to call the quarterdeck of my son’s ship to tell him we were outside waiting for him. I wanted to say thank so much.

I would also like to thank the two guards at the Nimitz gate who helped with my son’s departure. When we dropped him off at his ship, we said our goodbyes and got in the car, which would-n’t start. The two guards at the gate helped us with the tow truck and directed a place where my husband could wait for us right off base. I want to make sure that these two gentlemen get a thank you. We were three women stuck on a military base with no help, and they went out of their way to help us. Thank you again.
Dear Pamela,
Recently, my uncle inadvertently dropped off my mother (visually impaired) and father at Queen’s Physician’s Office Building (POB) II instead of POB I. They were disoriented. Thankfully a kind couple, Jack and Margaret, came to their rescue and walked them across the street, checked the building directory and even escorted them to the proper doctor’s office. I just wanted to send a huge MAHALO to Jack and Margaret for taking the time to assist my parents. I hope that you will be blessed with many more years of good health and happiness.

Dear Pamela,
I want to thank the very nice lady who offered me an umbrella when I was walking on Vineyard Boulevard on my way to Longs Pali. It started to rain and she called me from her car and insisted I take her umbrella. I appreciate her thoughtfulness.

Dear Barbara, Jackie and Julie,
We are all filled with gratitude this time of year, but some people make it a habit of being thankful every day. How fortunate we are for the angels who bestow on us all those big favors and small gestures.
