Happy Ending For A Homeless Dog

Dear Pamela,
A dear friend unexpectedly died, leaving his dog homeless. Lynn Hass of Lihue Veterinary Hospital kept the dog until his lifelong friend could bring the pet to California. The proper arrangements had not been made by an overwhelmed relative, and the dog was denied boarding in Honolulu, so the friend had to leave without it. Beautiful, kindhearted Lani Lidstone of Hawaiian Airlines overheard the commotion and agreed to keep the dog until the proper kennel could be purchased.
The next day, the dog was rejected again because of improper paperwork. The dog stayed with me for five days until everything could be straightened out. I’m happy to say that she now roams a California ranch by day and sleeps with her two new siblings by night. A fairy tale ending, thanks to two Good Samaritans.

Dear Peggy,
Make that three Samaritans. You took care of your friend’s dog for five days and sent it on to a new life on the Mainland.
Aloha Pamela,
A huge mahalo to the firefighters, ambulance crew and emergency staff at Castle and Kaiser medical centers. My husband was hit with pneumonia and fought to live long and hard, but did not recover. He passed peacefully. My thanks goes to the staff of CCU at Kaiser Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. Johnson, nurses Unjeong and Jim, Dr. Kohan, Dr. Tamanote, Dr. Roy, and nurse Steve for his efforts. Also, my gratitude goes to the palliative team led by Dr. Minaai and her group, Sandy the chaplain, Aileen and Lawrence.
Finally, may I encourage everyone to get into the habit of doing deep-breathing exercises daily to open up the air sacs and maximize lung capacity. Lungs that are not elastic invite bad stuff to settle in and can cause deadly pneumonia. And if you smoke, stop. Thanks to APPLAUSE and MidWeek for helping me spread the message.

Mahalo for your appreciation of their hard work. As we embark on this new year, we hope those who read your note will take your advice to get healthy by exercising daily, not smoking and remembering that prevention is the best medicine to help you live well, be well and thrive.”
