Help After A Fall, Giving Extra Time

As I went out to take in some sun on my break, I walked through Tamarind Park. But graceful person that I am, I was not watching as I approached steps going downward. Needless to say I missed the step. As soon as I hit the ground, a man (sorry, I didn’t get his name) asked if I needed help and picked up my cell phone and purse. Two ladies, Joyce and Leilani, stopped to offer their help as well, and had called over Sheldon (director of security) to my aid. My ankle started to swell immediately; Sheldon started first aid by applying a flexible ice pack. He was very kind and gentle as he tried to ease my situation. Joyce stayed with me and tried to relieve my tension by keeping the situation light and just offered her time and care to someone she didn’t even know. I am so blessed by these caring angels God sent to me at my moment of need. I wanted to commend them with a huge thank you

Bishop Square director of security Sheldon Conley says the tenants make up one big family. He’s been working there for 25 years and knows the tenants and many of the regular visitors. “We take up a whole city block, so we’re like our own little city,” he says. “A couple of tenants saw Ms. Silva fall and they knew I was in Tamarind Park making rounds. All we needed was eye contact and I knew to come over. I’m flattered that Ms. Silva took the time to write a letter.”

A bunch of us from Grace Bible Church Kapolei wanted to donate items to help the homeless on the Leeward side. Hazel from Maili Land Transitional Housing came to work on her day off and helped coordinate all the donations. She had such a cheerful attitude and really showed compassion for those she was helping. You could tell that she really cared! We thank Hazel and the many good Samaritans who work so hard at Maili Land.

“Hazel Keala is a very compassionate worker who’s been with us for 15 years,” says Maili Land Transitional Housing Program director Theresa Joseph. “We service unsheltered families on the Leeward Coast. Right now we have 44 families, so we rely heavily on organizations like Grace Bible Church to provide essential household items for our families.” MLTHP welcomes donations this holiday season.
