Help For Horses In The Flood

Because of all of that horrible rain that we recently encountered, a handful of the stalls where I board my two horses were hopelessly flooded. I sent out a cry for help to the community through the media and I am thrilled to announce that with the help and generosity of others, I was able to get all of the horses out of the mud and muck. I have so many people to thank. First of all, I would like to thank God for giving me the vision and strength to see this through. Next, a big mahalo goes out to my husband, Scott, who took the entire week off from work to help me.
A big thank you goes out to all of the people who donated dirt, sand, and black cinder: Sinclair Tanaguchi, Charley Souza, Bob Henry, Nito Bato, Vite and Nede Taufa, Kevin Deininger, Mario Elgio from Rolloffs, Earl Yoshido, Michael Harman, Nick Wong and family, Marguerite Fischer, Robin Rockwood and Dr. Wendell E. Hoshino. Another big mahalo goes out to Linda Bennett from the Big Island for donating gas money so we could pick up truckloads of black cinder, and to Suzanne W. of Aina Haina who took the bus to Pearl City so that she could help us shovel dirt. Suzanne, it was a pleasure shoveling dirt with you all day. I’d also like to thank Brian, from Oceantronics, for the plywood boxes he donated, with which we will be able to fix the arena. I’d also like to acknowledge Alfred and Sandra M. for offering to buy dirt. That was such a sweet gesture, but I knew in my heart that I would get enough dirt donated to where no one would have to pay retail for it. And finally, thank you, Pamela, for the opportunity to publicly thank all of my “Dirt Angels.”

Bob Henry of Great West of Hawaii food wholesaler says it was a matter of timing. “We were doing some renovation in our freezer area and there was a lot of dirt and black sand underneath. I called her and she was happy to get good dirt that was free of rocks. We’re still doing renovations. She just might get another load of black sand!”
Dear Pamela,
I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Sgt. Jason Kauwenaole for the efforts he and his fellow officers are doing to clean up the crime at Nanakuli Tracks. My wife and I are avid surfers who have been unable to enjoy one of our favorite surf spots for several years because of the constant crime there. Cars are broken into on a daily basis or sometimes even stolen. People have been threatened, and last year a young girl was shot in the shoulder. Nanakuli Tracks hasn’t been a safe or enjoyable place to surf for a very long time.
The efforts that Sgt. Kauwenaole is doing to clean up the crime at Tracks hasn’t gone unnoticed. I would like Sgt. Kauwenaole to know that the community is grateful for the efforts he’s making in taking back our beaches so everyone can enjoy. A BIG MAHALO from the community!

“I’m a surfer, too,” says Sgt. Kauwenaole, “so I understand the importance of safe, clean beaches. We have officers making checks at Nanakuli Tracks every hour. I just came from there. There were tourists using the beach and I’m sure they appreciate our efforts as well.”
