Helping A Downed Motorcyclist

Aloha Pamela,
I never thought I would have occasion to submit anything to your APPLAUSE column, but that has now changed. You see, I am the motorcyclist who was involved in a serious accident on Mokuola Road in front of the Philippine Community Center. It was bad and I thought I was a goner, except when I opened my eyes and found a gentleman and his wife who happened to be witnesses following behind when the accident occurred. They helped me, called the ambulance and police, and stayed to help me and also provided a factual account to authorities. I was hurt and confused, and I am sorry that I did not get their names. I just want them to know how much I appreciate them. I hope they’ll never need it, but if they ever do ... I can only hope they are fortunate enough to luck upon such good Samaritans as I did with them! Mahalo!

Dear Pamela,
I was driving from Pearl City on the freeway, past Waipahu, Kapolei and Campbell Industrial Park. There was a truck going into Nanakuli waving me down and pointing to my hood. My truck lid was open. When I pulled off onto the medial strip, he had turned around and headed to town. This guy must have been driving for miles, following me just to alert me of my truck door. He was driving a white truck with the logo of a pump on it. This is a good man who literally went the extra mile. Mahalo and much APPLAUSE for his kindness.

Dear Verna and Nick,
The majority of letters I receive describe moments of distress on the highway. Thanks to anonymous angels like yours, lives have been saved and accidents avoided.
(If you know someone who deserves some Applause, send your letters to Pamela Young, MidWeek Applause, KITV, 801 S. King St., Honolulu, HI, 96813 or e-mail pyoung@kitv.com. Include your name, phone number and, if possible, the phone number of your “applaudee” so we can contact him or her.)
