Helping Grandma Find Her Way

I would like to send APPLAUSE to Sandy. A couple of weeks ago, our dear grandma decided to take a shopping trip to the Downtown Macy’s. The shopping must’ve been fun, because she just couldn’t remember where she had parked her car. She walked around for a bit but just could not find it. Apparently, Sandy was sitting in her car and noticed. She got out of her car and offered to help (and comfort) Grandma. Grandma thinks they ended up walking/talking for 45 minutes before they finally happened upon the car. Needless to say, Grandma was overjoyed. She was relieved to find her car, but even more grateful for the comforting words and unselfish help of Sandy. Please let Sandy know that we are very appreciative for her kind act.

Sandy (who would like to remain anonymous) says it was no big deal. “It’s something anyone would have done for her. We hit it off right away. She was so sweet. When we found her car, she hugged me 10 times. I felt that I had made a friend.”

Going through some paperwork, I came across an old flier reminding me to service and maintain my solar water-heating system. It was long overdue, so I called for a service appointment. Mr. Peter Chiswick of Energy Unlimited came over and did a thorough job. When I proceeded to pay him, he deducted a portion of the bill and asked me if I could donate the remaining amount to the United Cerebral Palsy Association. I was so impressed by this act of charity. I believe he deserves APPLAUSE!

Dear Miriam,
Peter Chiswick is on the board of the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawaii. “This has been a good way to get the word out,” he says. “We have an adopt-a-duck program, which raises money for our school for kids with cerebral palsy. The donations go a long way, so we’re grateful for every dollar. Plus, it spreads awareness to the general public.”

I would like to thank all the people who have donated aloha wear to our Aloha Friday celebration for our men and women in the Armed Forces stationed in Afghanistan. I am a 16-year-old junior at Mid-Pacific Institute and would like to do my part. A gift of aloha would bring smiles to our troops, so I am asking for help in gathering new Hawaii T-shirts and aloha wear of any size for men and women. My goal is to collect 1,000 shirts. If you have any, I will pick them up after school. Please attach a card so that the men and women know we are thinking of them.Thank you so much for your support of our soldiers.
