Helping Hands After A Crash

One Saturday I was the victim of a head-on collision on Dole Street. Stanley of Freeman Guards was the first to assist me, helping me out of my car, which was leaking fluid (I had a full gas tank), and driving me in his electric cart a few yards away from my vehicle. Stanley then called HPD, the City and County ambulance and my daughter Yvonne. Also helping me were C&C ambulance personnel S. Yamamoto and Julie Watanuki, who went out of their way to assist me by getting my personal belongings out of my vehicle and taking care of my injuries.
Julie even waited patiently with me until I was admitted at Queen’s Emergency.
HPD Officer C. Gushikuma also was very helpful, retrieving my eyeglasses (which fell off my face with the impact) and completing a very timely report of the accident, making it easier for me to file a claim with the insurance company.

“It was graduation day and I was running the Dole Street parking lot at UHManoa,” says Stanley Soares, a Freeman Guards employee for nine years.“I heard a crash and went down to Dole Street. Two vehicles, driven by an elderly woman and a young man, had collided. Her car was leaking a fluid, so I thought it best to get her out and far away from the vehicle. She was pretty shaky. She reminded me of my grandmother. I just did what anybody else would have done.”

A few months ago I found out I have breast cancer, and I had to go to Kaiser as well as Koolau Clinic and Honolulu clinic. The treatments I received from Dr. Janine Among, Dr. Lisa Grininger, Dr. Jennifer Carney and all the other physicians and nurses (especially Dinah Tabonda, with the magic touch for taking my blood) were excellent. I was always treated with compassion, respect and utmost care. I know I will beat this cancer.

Drs. Grininger and Carney are my doctors as well, and they are the coolest! Navigating your way through cancer and dealing with all the emotions can be very stressful unless you have the right support team.
