Helping Hands In A Time Of Need

Dear Pamela,
My car is not aging gracefully. Although I recently had it serviced, within a three-week period a right tire went flat and the battery died. Fortunately, Coast Guard Lt. Miles Jenkins helped fix the flat and Federal Building security guard Alex Ancheta jump-started the battery. In both cases, these gentlemen told me, “Somehow, I was supposed to be here today.” That’s how I met a “guardian” and an “angel” within a month. I’m thankful that on those given days Lt. Jenkins and Mr. Ancheta stopped to help me. They truly exemplify the meaning of service to others, and I hope that their kindness is returned to them tenfold.

Dear Pam,
Lt. Miles Jenkins says it was the least he could do for a former co-worker. “We used to work in the same office at the Federal Building,” he says. “As I was walking through the parking lot, I saw that her front tire was low. I checked with her to see if she was having issues with her tire. I know she lives in Mililani and that’s quite a way to go with a low tire, so after work I changed the tire for her.”
Aloha, Pamela,
This morning I went out for a 6-mile run. I stopped at the Bank of Hawaii’s downtown branch to do some business at the completion of my run. I was very overheated and passed out in the bank. My 2-year-old daughter was with me and the bank staff took very good care of her while I was being attended to by security, then by paramedics. I am unable to name names, but I really appreciate the extra steps everyone took to make my child as comfortable and safe as possible in a very scary situation.

Downtown
Dear Heather,
It was customer banking representative Noneth Sarinas who noticed you walking toward the lobby chairs with your daughter. When you fainted, she alerted Brice Hara and Daniel Espinoza. Daniel cradled your head as Brice ran to get some bottledwater. Branch manager Ryson Matsumura called EMS. Bobbielyn Barut, a CBR, comforted your daughter, as she was visibly worried. Bobbie made sure she felt reassured, letting her know that her mom was going to be all right. As a mother herself, Bobbie kept watch and stayed with her, giving colored pens and paper to draw on so she could be kept occupied while BOH security personnel administered oxygen until EMS personnel took control. Your American Medical Response caregivers were David Jones, MICT, and his partner Josh Yeager, EMT.
