Helping Others Is Second Nature

I was walking with my wife to our car when all of a sudden she fell in the driveway. She is a dialysis patient and uses a walker. I was starting to panic as I couldn’t see anyone around to help get her up. Out of nowhere came a white van from Mobi Vans. The driver (his name is Mike) got out of his vehicle, helped get my wife up and put her in the car. I then took her to the emergency room. I would like to thank Mike and his company for their help and dedication in helping the handicapped.

Driver Michael Belizon, who’s been working at Mobi Van for a year and a half, says it’s all in a day’s work. “I transport patients to and from medical facilities, so sometimes I have to help them into vehicles. I saw the lady on the ground. She had just gotten out of dialysis. No one was helping, so it was second nature to give assistance.”

I was reading the APPLAUSE section of MidWeek and saw the comments about a “dedicated City and County employee who works hard.” Well, I would like to acknowledge the City and County employee who maintains the Mililani Mauka Park ‘n Ride, dog area and complete park area.
With his outstanding values and super-high standards, he single-handedly keeps the whole area in a very clean and safe condition. I have never seen public restrooms as clean as he keeps these. Trash is always picked up, and trash cans have clean bags at all times. It is such a great feeling to see a “public worker” who takes so much pride in his job! Great job!

“We believe the compliments at Mililani Mauka District Park are primarily attributable to Koldene Walsh,” says Les Chang, director of Parks and Recreation. “Koldene has been working as the primary groundskeeper at that park for about a year, and we’ve received numerous compliments on his excellent work and positive demeanor. It’s always nice that people recognize the dedication and hard work of one of our park employees. I think we easily have a couple hundred more who are deserving of this recognition.”

We all need to hear good news. “Media” shapes so much thinking and feeling. Thank you for bringing some good news into our community. I read the newspaper headlines online every morning. I don’t get it. Four-fifths of the headlines are about “bad news.”
