I got a flat tire recently while on my way to a picnic for school. I had just gotten on the on-ramp heading townbound when I realized I got a flat. I pulled over to the right side, but my car was in a very dangerous spot. The flat tire happened to be on the driver’s side, which meant it would be very dangerous for me to try to change the flat alone. After calling a tow truck and police, I sat behind the metal barrier of the freeway as that was the safest spot. The tow truck had still not arrived after 45 minutes, and just as I was about to give up hope, a van pulled over to the side and asked if I needed help. They quickly changed my flat for me, even though it was very dangerous to do so. One of the men was on his way to the airport to leave for the Mainland. I believe he said his name was Trevor. I never heard the name of the other man as the noise from the freeway made it hard to hear. I just wanted to say thank you to the two men who took the time out of their busy day to help me. Their kindness will surely not be forgotten. I wish them both the best and will always be grateful for their actions. I was glad to be reminded that there are still people around who live their lives with aloha.

Dear Pamela,
While making several stops in Kailua doing errands, I realized my necklace that I have had for more than 20 years was not around my neck. My heart sank. I retraced my stops and asked at the customer-service desks if anyone had found a Hawaiian necklace with my name on it. My fourth stop was at Longs, and much to my surprise, someone had found my necklace in the parking lot and turned it in. It was locked away and I was told to come back the next day to pick it up. In the morning, I was back at Longs and got my necklace. Much to my delight, they had taken the name of the person who turned in my necklace. I tried looking up the name in the phone book, but it was not listed. I hope this letter will be read by Kiana Ueyno or someone she knows, because I want her to know how much I appreciate what she did and that I want to thank her very much.

While having breakfast at Anna Miller’s with my husband and great-grandchildren, my diamond ring was left in the ladies restroom. Well, an honest female found it and turned it in. We were so grateful, but unable to thank her personally. Hopefully she reads your column. Many blessings to her.
