I was on my way home when a vehicle ran a stop sign and hit the truck I was driving. Soon after the accident, Tommy Clement pulled over to assist. He made sure the police were called and everyone was OK. You do not expect that from strangers. Tommy even waited until the police arrived before leaving the scene. I want to thank him for his assistance by which he made a negative situation a little better. We need many more people like Tommy.

Dear Phillip,
“It happened moments before I arrived,” says Tommy Clement, an account executive for Time Warner Telecom. “The people in the other car seemed like they wanted to leave the scene. My phone has a camera, so I snapped a picture of their license plate and waited until the police arrived. Mr. Nakagawa was by himself, and I just thought there’s strength in numbers. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy.” The same could be said for Good Samaritan Tommy Clement.

We have to recognize our wonderful neighbor, Walter Leonard, and his wife, Lydia, for such warm and much appreciated kindness. Every Saturday Mr. Leonard voluntarily cleans and mows our front lawn without hesitation. It is something that my dad, Takemitsu, used to do every weekend. Hip, hip, hooray for such wonderful neighbors. They would be welcome in any neighborhood.

Dear Sadie and Corinne,
“A lot of the people on our street are elderly and have a hard time going out in the yard,” says Lydia Leonard. “My husband mows our lawn and just keeps on going all the way down the street and up the other side. Then he does it again with the weedwhacker. Everybody thinks it’s so sweet, and I think so too.”
When not helping his neighbors, Walter Leonard works as the director of a ship maintenance and repair service.

Our car’s clutch gave out on Kamehameha Highway a few blocks before Hawaii Pacific University in Kaneohe. Soon after I put the hood up and the blinkers on, two young men in a Handicab of the Pacific stopped to help. They used their cell phone to call for a tow truck. They were so kind and helpful. Without their concern I don’t know what would have happened. A belated, heartfelt mahalo to them.

You were lucky to be spotted by two of the 27 Handicab of the Pacific’s much-appreciated drivers.
“Our drivers are so awesome; there is so much caring,” says Handicap executive assistant Lorraine Stringfield. “We’re very very proud of our drivers.”
