Lending A Hand In No Time Flat

Dear Pamela,
Last Tuesday I was taking my son to the Academy of Arts and was turning onto Victoria from Kinau. It was 9 a.m. and very busy. I suddenly heard an explosion and ran my van into the curb. My son looked out and noticed that my tire was totally flat. I drove to the parking meters next to the park. I got out and started to change the tire on my Windstar van (while in heels, no less). Not one person stopped to help me. After removing my tire I realized that I did not know how to get the spare tire out from under my van. All of a sudden an angel appeared, Larry Ng. This nice elderly gentlemen was apparently walking his dog and he asked if I needed help. Mr. Ng showed me that I was cranking the crow bar the wrong way to let the spare down. He then showed me how to take the tire off and helped me put the spare tire on. He even made sure that I put the lug nuts on tightly.
Thank you, Mr. Ng, for being such a caring good Samaritan in a time of lost chivalry!

Dear Lani,
Lucky for you Larry Ng was in Thomas Square where he often trains dogs. The retired phone company worker was the trainer for a couple of celebrity dogs - Zeus and Apollo on Magnum P.I.
“I noticed this lady struggling with the spare tire,” he says, “and she was cranking away, but nothing worked. I told her, ‘you know what, to remove, you gotta go counterclockwise.’ And then it worked. I give credit to her; she was a tough lady.”
Dear Pamela,
I was shopping in Sears carrying $800 in cash and savings bonds. I dropped my gray plastic file in the Sears wagon before leaving the store. My cash and bonds were in that file.
When I looked for my file I suddenly realized it was gone! I looked everywhere until I was too exhausted to keep looking. My mother called Sears, but no sign of my file.
I came home the next afternoon to find a silver SUV in my driveway. Two kids and a woman were at my doorstep. The woman was handing my mom my gray file. My mom said “Look, these nice people are returning your money.” I was speechless. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I didn’t know what to say. An incredible boy named Joseph who attends King Intermediate School found my file. His Aunty Nora delivered it to my front door. These people are my angels. I felt so good that day, praise the Lord!

Dear Leann,
Joseph’s grandmother was the next person to use the Sears wagon in which you deposited your file. The family could have left it with Sears lost and found, but knowing how worried you would be, decided to contact you personally.
Dear Pamela,
I was recently involved in an accident on H-2, and must express my sincerest and deepest appreciation and gratitude, and acknowledge all the humongous-hearted people who stopped to help and offer support. To be involved in an accident is scary, but to have your own children also involved, and be unable to help them, is beyond words. A man in blue helped my girls, ages 5 and 2, out of the car and made sure they were OK. He gave them slippers off his own feet so that they would not step on glass. “Chris,” a military med tech, checked them and myself. “Tracy,” a person of true aloha, stayed with me the entire time and also helped my husband clean out my car after the ambulance had taken me away. I’d also like to thank the ambulance staff for their caring and efficiency. They made us feel that everything was going to be all right. Words cannot express how deeply touched we are by the kindness of these people. I hope somehow these words reach them. Thank you.

Dear Lisa,
The emergency crew that helped you that day was from the Aiea Paramedic Unit: supervisor Jay Hara and paramedic Nathan Nonaka. A standing ovation goes out to them and your anonymous angels.
