Lucky Times For A Lost Wallet

After shopping at Times Super Market in Kailua, I lost my wallet while sitting on the bench outside, waiting for my daughter. When I got home, I discovered my wallet was missing. Thank goodness Diane Hironaka, an employee at Times, found it.

Dear Angela,
“I was coming to work and I saw her wallet on the bench next to another lady,” says customer service representative and cashier Diane Hironaka. “I asked the lady if that was her wallet and she said no, so I looked in it and recognized the name because Angela is a regular customer. She came back just after I turned it in. She was nice enough to thank me personally, and she wanted to give me something for my trouble, but I said, no, no, don’t worry about it!”

I am a MidWeek subscriber and I look forward to reading APPLAUSE because I’m so amazed at how many people are recipients of good deeds from strangers.
My good friend, Betty Sonoda, was waiting for me in the Longs Pali parking lot while I completed my shopping. Suddenly she couldn’t start her car. A man in the car in front of her immediately came over and diagnosed the problem as a dead battery. He jump-started her car and told her to go to Sears Automotive and check the battery.
Betty forgot to ask for his name, but I would like him to know through this letter how much his kindness is appreciated.

Dear Kay,
A very grateful Betty Sonoda says in her heart she knows the gentleman understands what his gesture meant to her. “And it taught me never to take things for granted,” she says.

We were having a family dinner at the Swiss Haus in Niu Valley when the waiter showed up with a dessert for the “young lady” (my 96-year-old mother!). It was paid for by a gentleman, whom we did not see. He picked a very nice dessert and my mom enjoyed it so much!

The mystery gentleman was Freddie Halmes, owner of Swiss Haus. “It’s just in appreciation for coming to the restaurant and bringing the family,” he says.
