Out Of Nowhere, Help Arrives

Aloha Pamela,
I am hoping that you can help me with this, but it will be a challenge due to the length of time that has passed. My mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2007 and she passed away last year. My father died unexpectedly six weeks before she did.
As I reflect on many wonderful moments with my parents, one event went unacknowledged and I want to thank someone for a terrific kindness and let them know what a truly wonderful thing they did.
I was in the parking lot near Roy’s Restaurant. A van pulled up and a young woman called out to me, “I have a $50 gift certificate to Roy’s. It expires tonight and I have my Kalani High School reunion so I cannot use it. Would you like it?” My mother had just received her diagnosis and I thought: “Wow, this would be a nice treat,” and I accepted the gift certificate.
My mother and father and I shared our last fun restaurant dinner together at Roy’s thanks to this thoughtful lady.
I am so sorry that I neglected to get her name and that I let so much time pass before trying to thank her.

Dear Pamela,
A group of Good Samaritans was gassing up their bikes at the station at the Ala Wai end of Kapahulu, across from the Waikiki Library. I had filled my car, which then would not start. I looked around for someone who looked helpful in the packed gas station. Jody and Alex hopped to it and had me out of the way of the other customers in a flash. So nice, these young men, and happy to help. Thank you, Jody and Alex! Way to show that aloha spirit!

Aloha Pamela,
The day before Labor Day, my husband and I spent the day with our kids at Kaimana Beach. When we returned to our Dodge Caravan, with kayaks in tow, we found our ignition was locked and we were unable to start the van. An hour and a half later with the help of AAA, our car was hooked up to a huge tow truck and was ready to be towed. It was already past sunset, yet the parking lot was still full. Because the natatorium parking area is so narrow, the driver needed to reverse our vehicle out to the street, and here comes Jimmy and Kepa. Jimmy heads out to Kalakaua Avenue to stop traffic and Kepa helped direct the tow truck driver to the street. Absolute aloha to the gentlemen who took time from their separate parties to help us.
