Posting Two Positive Experiences

Dear Pamela,
I am a senior citizen in a motorized chair. It has helped me continue an active lifestyle, for which I am very grateful. But sometimes a human hand is necessary to get the little chores done.
I came into the Hawaii Kai Post Office to get some stamps and immediately encountered a line of about a dozen people waiting to mail packages. To avoid waiting, I motored up to the automatic stamp machine. The lobby was crowded and I couldn’t place my chair close enough to the machine to see all the buttons. Also, this was the first time I used the machine so I was uncertain how to go about it. After a few minutes, a postal employee came out the side door and asked if he could assist me. I got my stamps in no time.
This was service with a smile! And so unexpected because the line was so long. Mahalo to the postal staff. I know they were very busy and yet they took the time to help me.
Gregory Sidowitz
Hawaii Kai
Dear Gregory,
The folks at the Hawaii Kai Post Office thank you for acknowledging them. “We’ve extended our hours and try very hard to be helpful to everyone,” says relief supervisor Pam Glatt. “We’re happy we could assist and grateful for his letter.”
Dear Pamela,
I had some packages to mail to the Mainland and thought I would beat the crowd and go early to the Aina Haina Post Office. Unfortunately the post office didn’t open until 9 a.m., so I had the choice of either waiting 15 minutes or using the new automatic parcel machine. A woman was standing in front of it, pushing all the buttons, so I looked over her shoulder to see how to do it.
She saw me looking so she explained as she completed her transaction. Then she talked me through the process, showing me how to weigh my packages and pay with a credit card. In the meantime, the man behind me was watching, so when she was finished with me she helped him with his parcels. Her instruction was so good he thought she worked for the post office!
I would like to extend some APPLAUSE to Ronnie Farinas for being our post office angel that day. I’m sure she had lots of Christmas things to do, yet she patiently talked and walked us through the process. Thank you, Ronnie!
Tom Tagawa
Aina Haina
Dear Tom,
“Someone helped me learn the system before, so it was no trouble passing on the information,” says Ronnie Farinas, a secretary at Hawaii Hearing Aids. “Tom was willing to watch me, and I know the next time he’ll probably help the person behind him.”
