Dear Pamela,
I have two big thank yous. One is to MidWeek for this wonderful column.
The second is to a terrific, selfless person so worthy of APPLAUSE: attorney John Marshall. He and his group have formed Our Troop Support Hui to cheer up our military people. Boxes are being sent to the front line to Soldiers and Marines who face danger every day in Afghanistan and Iraq. May God bless them and keep them safe. The military from all branches deserve APPLAUSE for bravely serving our country, too!

Dear Agnes,
“We’ve been doing this now for about three years,” says John Marshall, “and we’ve sent probably $80,000-$100,000 worth of ‘stuff,’ including items donated in kind, which is about 50 percent of what goes into boxes to the front line Marines and Soldiers, many but not all from or stationed in Hawaii. This really is a team effort with more than 100 members from Hawaii, California, Oregon, Arizona, Colorada, Georgia, the Philippines and elsewhere.”
The Hui accepts donations at ASB Tower, Suite 740, 1001 Bishop St., Honolulu, HI 96813-3429, Tel: (808) 523-3834.
All donations are appreciated, as you can see from the letter below.
To: Our Troop Support Hawaii Hellos to you all, or should I say “aloha.” I cannot express the patriotic feelings your group has stirred inside all of us here. It amazes me that we do not even know each other, yet dozens of men, women and children are so compassionate to improve the quality of my life. All the Marines in my hooch, about 26, put the gift items in a community chest for anytime use. The packages thus far have contained a variety of fun and useful items, as well as inspirational. The pictures and letters embody us with a sense of purpose and appreciation. You are truly fine Americans, and even though I’ve never been to Hawaii, I can feel the unity and love that must exist in such a place.
