Dear Pamela,

My mother Kazuko Hardy passed away in July. During the last month of her battle with pancreatic cancer, her lower denture was broken (and lost), preventing her from eating normal foods. She was unable to leave the apartment because of the cancer; however, she wanted to be able to eat the foods that she loved during her lifetime. We contacted her dentist to find out if we could get another denture. Unfortunately, none of the original molds were still in existence. But he was willing to come to the apartment, make a mold for my mother and create a new denture for her (at cost). This required several trips to the apartment of two to three hours. This made my mother very happy in her final weeks and was an act of kindness that we will never forget. My mother passed away before she could use the denture, an unfortunate testament to the speed at which pancreatic cancer acts, but she had her denture to take with her thanks to the selfless contribution of Dr. Morimoto. My sister and I will be eternally grateful for this act of kindness.

Dear Bill,

Dr. Richard Morimoto says your mom was an exceptional patient. “I really enjoyed talking to her, “he says. “That’s what’s special about what I do. Besides the mechanics of dentistry, I try to relate to my patients to make it a more personable experience. This was a quality-of-life issue. When I saw her at the apartment, she was not expected to go beyond seven to 10 days. The family thought it was worth making the investment to make her remaining days comfortable.”

Dear Pamela,

I just wanted to write in and recognize Shannon, Mo and Al of Live Bait Fishing Charters. I recently booked a charter with them while my family was in town visiting from Texas. Not only were they hard-working, but they were also courteous and fun! Even two weeks later my family is still talking about what a great time they had and how many fish we caught. It’s rare to get such great service, and I really wanted to thank them for showing my family such a special time. I think it’s fair to say my family will never forget their trip, and Shannon and his crew definitely played a huge part in that.

Dear Heather,

“We had a great time, too!” says Shannon Frazier, owner of Live Bait Fishing Charters. “They caught some ahi, mahi and aku (along with crew members Mo Frazier and Al Brandenmart). They brought out the luck. And that’s what happens sometimes. Families get together to have a good time and that brings out the luck.”
