Some First Aid And Dim Sum

Thanks to Jean Ho, owner of Mei Sum, a dim sum restaurant in Chinatown. On a recent Sunday, my brother-in-law collapsed on the sidewalk across the street from her restaurant. Jean ran out to attend to him and assess the situation. She ran in and out of her restaurant several times to get him something with sugar. First a piece of candy, then a fruit drink and then had an employee bring out a chair so we could get my brother-in-law off the ground. After a while, we were able to go into her restaurant for lunch, which was our original plan. Jean even brought over a first aid spray and applied it to his scraped elbow. Mahalo to her and her waitresses too.

A previous experience with a diabetic emergency had Jean Ho prepared. “I didn’t think about it. I just wanted to help and get him to a fast recovery,” she says. “This is the fourth time I’ve assisted in an emergency situation.”
Hi Pamela!
Today I had a flat tire. I called All Island Towing. Rudy showed up to help me. He was cheerful and professional and had my tire changed in a few minutes. But my spare wasn’t in good condition either. Rudy said I should be able to make it a few blocks to Goodyear, and he would follow me just to make sure I got there OK. All Island can be very proud of Rudy. He is one of the nicest people I’ve met!
I’d also like to give a round of applause to the nice folks at Goodyear/Gemini in Ewa Beach. They’re always so good to me.

“He’s one of the best over here,” says Vince Southon, manager of All Island Towing. “He’s been here a year and a half and is always on time, a really good guy. We’re proud of all our drivers and dispatchers.”

I had friends visiting from Poland and I took them to Haleiwa Joe’s at Haiku Gardens. I wanted them to see the beautiful garden and have a great dinner with a view of the mountains. I had my $2,000 Canon camera with me to take pictures. Later, during the dinner, I took more photos and then I put the camera under my chair - and forgot to take it with me. Two weeks later we had a goodbye dinner for them and I wanted to take more photos, but I could not find the camera. Then I remembered the last time I had it was at Haleiwa Joe’s. I called the next day and they had it! They said Tim York, one of the owners of the restaurant, found it. Mahalo to Mr.York and the wonderful staff at Haleiwa Joe’s!

“We have a great staff that’s very trusting,” says Tim York, managing owner of Haleiwa Joe’s at Haiku Gardens. “I saw the camera when the party left. I grabbed it and ran into the parking lot, but the car was already gone. It looked expensive, so I knew someone would retrieve it.”
