Dear Pamela,
Mahalo from the bottom of my heart to those who helped me survive one of the scariest hours of my life. My precious poi dog Maile was abducted from me in front of the Kaneohe Sprint store. I was frantic and grief-stricken when all of you selflessly came to my aid. First, thank you to the kind man who went out of his way to go to the police station with me to provide a description of what was witnessed. Your caring kokua and patiently waiting family helped to greatly ease my distress. Thank you also to the Sprint store manager for your calm, helpful endeavors despite my shocked, heartbroken, weeping condition. Lastly, thank you to Kaneohe’s finest, Officers D. Wong, M. Capobianco and Q. Apilando, for your quick response that happily resulted in a positive outcome. My dearly loved Maile is with me now, only because of all of you, and your genuine concern and extraordinary efforts. So from me and Maile, a warm aloha.

Dear Sandy,

“Thanks should go to the whole staff because we all pitched in to help Sandy,” says Windward Sprint manager Archie Mariano. “The employees on staff then were Russell McGuire, Jason Sue, Heather McCormack, Kimberly Ryan, Patrice McClary, Scott Quiral and Carissa Uehmura.”

Dear Pamela,
About three weeks ago I was walking downtown and I lost my cell phone case with $10 in it. I want to thank Lisa Buto and Evie Taylor, who found it and sent it back to me. I thought I would never see it again. A friend said to write to you so they could read my thank you in your column.

Dear Judi,
Lucky for you career counselor Lisa Buto and international student adviser Evie Taylor work at nearby Hawaii Pacific University. “We have classroooms all over downtown, and Evie and I were coming back from doing orientations when a phone case on the ground caught our eye at the corner of Hotel and Bishop,” says Lisa Buto.

“We knew somebody would want it back, especially since there was some money tucked in the case. Her name was on the front, so I looked her up in the phone book, comparing addresses. Unfortunately the phone had been disconnected so I stuck everything in an envelope and mailed it to her.

“We are overwhelmed by her gratitude. She wrote us a thank you, also one to the president of HPU. And she sent us $10 so we could have a nice lunch. We’re going to send it back to her because our deed doesn’t deserve a monetary reward. It was just the right thing to do.”
