I couldn’t resist telling you our great story. I am a teacher and to make ends meet, I have a second job doing yard maintenance in Kailua. Well, one morning my wife and I discovered my yard maintenance van was broken into and most of my equipment stolen, totaling more than $1,200. Needless to say, we were crushed.
We considered shutting down the business, but I didn’t have the heart to quit - after all, I still needed to provide for my wife and six kids. Well, within a few days, a generous Punahou teacher and her husband heard about our hardship and sent a check our way to help us get back on our feet. We also received another check from a wonderful organization’s “sharing fund.”
This organization is called People of Praise. Furthermore, individual members of this same organization dropped off $500 in cash in anonymous donations to support us. In the end, we had enough funds to cover the cost of the stolen items and the replacement of my van’s shattered window. We continue to tell our story and hope and pray that the thieves turn their lives around and find peace.

Dear Mike and Malia,
Tom Duddy of P.O.P. explains the local branch is one of 21 People of Praise organizations throughout the U.S and Canada. “We are 50 or so adults belonging to different Christian churches. Our purpose is to support one another. It gives us a tremendous sense of security knowing we are not alone. There were people who helped me and my wife in the past, so it is second nature to help others in need. We contribute 1 percent of our incomes to our Sharing Fund for situations just like this one.”

I had the complicated task of shipping two dogs to the Mainland. They were the beloved pets of my best friend, who was murdered a few weeks before. The mother wanted to have the dogs with her, so I made arrangements to send them via Continental Cargo. It was a very emotional and stressful process for my young daughter and me as we brought the dogs to the cargo facility at the Honolulu Airport. The woman behind the counter (I think her name is Carol) was so reassuring and kind that it brought tears to my eyes. I was thrilled to hear the dogs arrived at their destination safe and sound and none the worse for wear. I want to thank Continental and the woman at the counter for her help, and I apologize that it took me so long to write this.

Julie King of Continental Public Relations tells us that “Carol” is Carol Luis, who works for Continental through Unlimited Services Group.

Pets have a confirmed reservation prior to departure and are constantly monitored throughout their travel so that they arrive at their destination healthy and secure.”
Bravo to Carol, and to you, Bonnie, for caring for your best friend’s dogs.
