Dear Pamela,

This is a belated thank you to the security guards at Mililani High School.

My daughter and her friend planned an outing, so they needed to catch the city bus near Mililani High School. A school security guard, I believe his name is Kalani, noticed there was a certain car near the school property. He noticed the driver approaching my daughter and her friend. The driver asked the girls some silly questions; the girls felt uneasy so they didn’t respond. The guard approached the driver and asked what he was doing in the area.

The man mentioned that his child had baseball tryouts. It was not baseball season, so the security guard quickly called police.

Thanks to all security guards for watching out for our children.

Mililani

Dear Lori,

Mililani High School safety manager Kalani Takase was your diligent security guard. “Every so often students will be on campus late, and we are fortunate at Mililani High School to have 80 security cameras installed on property,” he says. “Even so, cameras are not enough. It’s a team effort and I’m thankful to have five great security attendants on board.”

Dear Pamela,

I had put my purse in the trunk of my car before attending a swap meet at Richardson Field, but for some reason my purse fell out. Iolani was up in the picnic area and found my purse. She found my address and came to my house. I was shocked! I offered a reward, but she said no thanks.

Now here’s the rest of the story. I had a baseball bag within my bigger purse. Shortly before a vacation on the Mainland, I couldn’t find the baseball bag. It had lots of personal items in it. I was sick with worry. While I was on vacation in Atlanta, a park ranger with the USS Arizona Memorial called. Someone had found my bag and turned it in to lost and found. Can you believe everything was still in the bag? The park ranger did not know who turned it in, so the reward I meant for this person went to the Arizona Memorial.

I only know two special angels were there for me. I learned a valuable lesson within that one month!

Dear Sharon,

“We are delighted that one of our many visitors chose to do the ‘right thing’ by turning in the purse and that our NPS Ranger was able to contact her,” says Laurie Moore, director of development and community relations. “We are touched by her donation, which will go toward supporting the restoration of the USS Arizona Memorial just in time for its 50th anniversary next spring!”

Aloha Pamela, While bringing my wife to her doctor’s scheduled appointment at Hawaii Medical Center-West, an unexpected and profuse bleeding occurred on my right foot because of a ruptured varicose vein. I would like to express my profound appreciation and gratitude to everyone involved in helping me, especially to the person who wrapped my foot, to the two ladies at the pharmacy (St. Francis Medical Plaza) who brought paper towels, and to the security guards who rushed me in a wheelchair to the emergency room. Their quick response to an emergency undoubtedly prevented me from losing too much blood. And to all of you at the ER, my wife Marcela and I would like to thank you for a job well done.

David Rarangol
Waipahu

Dear Marcela and David,

Noel Martin, Paulino Mina and Andrea Wieland assisted you in the ER. “Thank you for the kind words,” says Philip Odle, RN, director of nursing. “We were very pleased to hear how responsive and attentive our staff had been during your unfortunate incident.”
