The Kindness Of Total Strangers

My husband and I would like to send our deep gratitude out to Mr. Jason Green of Manoa.
Last week my husband noticed some “paper” flying in his rear mirror as we drove down the Pali Highway passing the cemetery lookout. Thinking nothing of it, we drove to our yoga class.
Later that evening we arrived home and then it hit him - oh, no! That “paper” consisted of things flying out of his wallet as it fell off the roof of our car onto the highway! We got back in the car and spent the next hour searching. We found a few of his business cards. That’s it. When we got home, the answering machine had a message from our insurance company. Mr. Jason Green had found our wallet!
We called Mr. Green, expecting to meet him the next day. He was so kind, he insisted on meeting us at the lookout that night to show us where the wallet dropped and help us look for the money and a few cards that were missing. Mr. Green met us that night with flashlights in hand and proceeded to look up and down the Pali Highway for an hour.
Because of him we found all the money and all the missing credit cards!
What a blessing and a relief. So please applaud Mr. Green for us. It’s a great reminder that there are wonderful people all around us!

Anyone who’s lost a wallet can understand your anxiety. The loss is bad enough, but to have the contents strewn over miles of highway!
“I was coming home from work and noticed a wallet in the middle of the road,” says Jason Green, a maintenance supervisor at Hawaiian Memorial Park. “I went back around, picked it up and the only phone number in it was an insurance card. Through the insurance company they called me back. We spent the night in the rain and found money on the side of the road, even a $100 bill. I was just being a good neighbor.”
Dear Pamela,
My husband and I were shopping at Safeway on Beretania and discovered that someone had side-swiped our car in the lot. There was no note on the windshield, and we were disgusted that someone could have so little respect for other people’s property and no sense of responsibility.
It was then that Myra Fugihara came over and gave us the license plate of the white van that hit us. She had been waiting for her husband in the parking stall across from us and witnessed the whole thing. She also called police on her cell phone, so within minutes a squad car was there to take down the information.
We cannot say thank you enough to Myra for being such a good watchperson. The man driving the van was tracked down and the matter is now being handled by our insurance companies. We could not have done this without Myra. APPLAUSE to this fine person!

“I heard this strange sound and looked up and saw this van scraping a Toyota,” says Myra Fugihara, a retired teacher from Makiki. ” It didn’t look-like he was going to stop, so I took down his license number. I wouldn’t want that to happen to anyone. It was only right.”
