My mom would like to commend Thad Kamaka’ala, substitute driver for refuse pickup on Hele Street in Kailua. Thad assisted my mom in moving the refuse cart, since he would not be able to pick it up where it was. He took the time to get out of his truck and to help Mom. Please extend our sincere “mahalo” for him going above and beyond the call of duty.

Normally, refuse trucks bypass the containers if there’s a vehicle parked on the street blocking access. “I could see the lady was elderly,” says Thad Kamaka’ala, “so I got out, moved the container to where I could empty it, then put it back in front of her house. She seemed like a very nice lady.”

I would like to thank the Pikake Room Terrace buffet personnel. My daughters threw me a belated Mother’s Day buffet at the Princess Kaiulani Hotel and I had forgotten to pick up my Mother’s Day card on the dining table. I called several days later and fortunately it was turned in to the buffet manager. All I have is their first names - Megan, our waitress Tran, and Troy, the waiter that brought our drinks. I believe the manager’s name was Sean? Please give them my mahalos for being honest and very pleasant.

Duke says he was on his way to work at his commercial driving school when he saw you at the side of the road. “He was trying to change the tire himself,” he says. “He was elderly, and I just knew I had to stop and give a hand. I pulled over and started to change the tire, then Mr. Biscocho’s son arrived and finished the process.”
