A rousing round of APPLAUSE goes to all the honorees at the 39th Annual Mayor’s Senior Recognition Program. Ninety-three senior citizens were recognized for their volunteerism.
OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEERS of 2005:
Andres Cariaga (79), nominated by Kaiser-Permanente. Andres has already served more than 3,200 hours as a Senior Companion for Kaiser patients.
Dorothy Mau (77), nominated by Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center, Chinese Cultural Club. Dorothy has contributed more than 13,600 hours to 11 organizations.
PLATINUM AKAMAU LIVING AWARD WINNER
Marianne Rodrigues (84), nominated by The Queen’s Medical Center. She’s been volunteering at Queen’s for almost 28 years!
GOLD AKAMAI LIVING AWARD WINNERS:
Rufina Cabaron (79), nominated by the Senior Companion Program for her five years of service to frail and elderly clients of the Honolulu Gerontology Program.
Robert Freitas (73), nominated by the national Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, has contributed more than 10,000 hours of service as a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Purple Heart Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Veterans Service Council.
Anita Loando-Acohido (72), nominated by Hospice Hawaii has logged in almost 2,000 hours as patient care coordinator.
SILVER AKAMAI LIVING AWARD WINNER:
Richard Fujimoto (72), nominated by the Moanalua Senior Citizen’s Club.
BRONZE AKAMAI LIVING AWARDS WINNERS:
Clytie Hewlett (82), nominated by the East Foster Village Community Association.
Ann Jones (64), nominated by the American Cancer Society. Congratulations to all and mahalo for being a part of your communities!
