The Top-notch Care At Kaiser ER

I was taken by ambulance on March 21 to Kaiser Permanente ER because I was having a difficult time breathing. This is when I met JC, Robin, Lei, Susan and Dr. Alvarez. They calmed me down and made me so comfortable. They had other emergencies besides me that day.
Dr. Alvarez decided to admit me to the hospital because of my wheezing. There I met more awesome nurses and doctors. The nurses were so caring and patient with me. I told one of them that I usually sleep with a fan. They found a fan for me and I was so touched. I got some of their names: Patty, Carol, Marlon, Heather, Wendy, Maddie, JR/Michael and MJ.
You all deserve much APPLAUSE.

For several years now, I have been walking on a route that encompasses a large portion of Mililani, on Kipapa Drive. Luckily, there has never been occasion for me to use the pepper spray that I always carry.
This past Saturday morning, as I crossed the street toward Kipapa School, I briefly noticed a guy behind me. Once I reached the other side, I saw what looked to me like playful actions between him and two powerfully built Rottweiler (or maybe Doberman) dogs. Those two dogs then ran across the street, one behind the other, heading straight toward me on the sidewalk. Assuming they were his dogs, I screamed and swore at him to get his dogs, all the while aiming my pepper spray at the dogs. He had also run across the street, and then they chased after him farther up the block. In sheer terror I ran into the street, and was never so scared!
A small group of parents had been standing near Kipapa School. They said the dogs did not belong to the gentleman, who was actually trying to fend the dogs off me. He may have even gotten bitten, as what I thought was play was him fighting them off. When a police officer responded a few minutes later, I asked him that, should he manage to find the gentleman, to please thank him for me. Everything happened so fast I could not even begin to remember what he looked like or what he was wearing. When I finally got home, I just burst out crying.
I owe this Anonymous Angel a huge debt of gratitude and an apology. His supreme act of bravery and kindness compelled me to perform a random act of kindness to another stranger. I have done so because that is what is required.
I still hope that someday I can personally thank him.

The Hawaiian Humane Society has some advice for anyone who might find themselves in this position.
“Do not run and keep the dog in your vision without making eye contact,” says Kristen Herrick of HHS. “Try to put something between you and the dog such as a tree, bench or even a purse or briefcase and slowly back away. Call 911 as soon as possible; they can respond the quickest. Call the Humane Society at 356-2250. We can attempt to identify the dog and its owner. Hawaiian Humane Society also has the Mr. Bugs Dog Bite Prevention Program, which includes a booklet available at the shelter and online at http://www.hawaiianhumane.org/dog_bite.html.”
