Dear Pamela,
The Mililani Library staff wants to thank the special people and community that came to our quick aid after the branch was burglarized and damaged last week. Special mahalos to the Honolulu Police Department, state of Hawaii DAGS, the public library branch, Mililani Library Friends, Wesley, Lucy and very understanding patrons. Without their assistance we wouldn’t have been able to get the library back in operation so quickly. Thank you!

Wendi Woodstrup,
Branch Head Librarian
Dear Wendi and coworkers,
“I called Wendi up that morning to ask her to lunch,” says Lucy McCurdy. “She said she couldn’t because of the burglary. I thought, if she couldn’t have lunch with me, maybe I could bring lunch to her and the staff. I brought a veggie platter for 10 people and drinks. I wanted to brighten their day, and it actually brightened mine, too!”
Dear Pamela,
When I needed leis for a graduation in Toronto, Canada, Linda and her son Kerry came to my rescue. After searching the Yellow Pages and the Internet for a florist that services countries outside of the U.S., everyone had the same answer: “We don’t ship to Canada anymore.” Thank God for Sweet Leilani Florist! Linda was very optimistic and gave me hope that it could be done. Her son Kerry was more than willing to lend a hand, and went the extra mile when no one else would. Good news: The leis were delivered as promised and the graduate was so elated to have received a part of Hawaii on her very special day. Kudos to Linda and Kerry for a job well done. God bless you both!
Darleen E. Bumanglag
Kapiolani
Dear Darleen,
“She called on a weekend, so it was difficult to find out what to do,” says Linda Ko of Sweet Leilani Florist. “There’s a lot of red tape and so many forms to fill out to ship to a foreign country. We found out Federal Express could ship, so that’s the way we did it. Darleen was very open-minded and flexible. Having a customer like that makes you want to go beyond to see they get what they want.”
Dear Pamela,
Now that I am a Handi-Van rider, I find it’s a wonderful thing we have. The handicapped and the elderly can now go out into the world and enjoy life instead of being home-bound. I’ve ridden with so many different people, and I’m amazed how the drivers are so patient and helpful. Making or canceling reservations are all very pleasantly handled. Please give them a big APPLAUSE for their good work.
Marian Fong
Waikiki
Dear Marian,
“We try hard to make the Handi-Van work for the almost 3,000 disabled riders we transport each day,” says Roger Morton, president and general manager of Oahu Transit Services Inc. “Running a curbside to curbside service that operates almost 24-7, 365 days per year is a tall order to fill. However, our dedicated staff works tirelessly to provide the best service possible. It is especially nice to hear from a satisfied customer when we are successful!”
(If you know someone who deserves some Applause, send your letters to Pamela Young, MidWeek Applause, KITV, 801 S. King St., Honolulu, HI, 96813 or e-mail pyoung@kitv.com. Include your name, phone number and, if possible, the phone number of your “applaudee” so we can contact him or her.)
