When Kindness Is No Accident

I was involved in a car accident while taking my daughter to her bus stop. A driver ran the red light and broadsided me. My van’s sliding door sustained most of the damage, with the door’s glass shattering into a million pieces and falling onto my son’s lap. The male driver looked at us for a few seconds, reversed, then sped off (but not before I got his license plate). My son, daughter and I were very shaken, but luckily we were not seriously hurt.
I want to recognize kindhearted Jennifer Ishida, who after hearing the car crash, walked from her home to see if she could help, and when it started to rain, went back home to get an umbrella for us to use, staying with us for awhile till I calmed down.
Diane and Richard Imai actually tried to chase down the driver who fled the scene, and later returned to see if we were all right. Officers Desa and Perkins from the Pearl City Police Station stood in the rain and tried to gather as much information as possible in order to locate the driver.
Though this could have happened anywhere, I am blessed that it was in the Pacific Palisades community, where people care enough to get involved.

For Diane and Richard Imai, getting involved is second nature.
“It happened so fast,” says Richard. “The truck ran the red light and we were shocked that he took off. We happened to be in the car behind Ms. Kamisugi. We tried to follow him, but he was gone. Then we came back to make sure everyone was OK. It’s something we would have done for anyone.”
Hi Pamela, I would like to send thanks to the person/people who so graciously turned in my phone to staff after I had lost it at the New Hope anniversary celebration. I also would like to thank Tim and the other New Hope staff members for not only holding onto my phone and returning it in perfect condition, but also for calling and informing me that it had been found. It truly was a miracle that there wasn’t a single scratch and that no one had stepped on it. Thank you so much for the benevolence and kindness expressed in everyone’s actions. I hope that those reading this also will be able to send off good deeds to someone today and bring a smile to his or her face!

Aloha Pamela, I love reading APPLAUSE and always look forward to my MidWeek newspaper! I would personally like to thank Officer Pang for her kindness and willingness to give me protection and support while I was stranded by the airport. Even the man from the tow company expressed how lucky I was to have an outstandingly kind and patient police officer there with me. Again, I would like to give many thanks to Officer Pang.
