Founders of Designer for a Day

It’s an exciting thing to reinvent yourself at any time in life, especially after you’ve been doing something for a long time. Each of us has more than 25 years in the designing industry and what a journey it has been. When many of our colleagues were contemplating retirement, we decided to take a risk and embark on a new business. We took more than 55 years of our professional experience to create Designer for a Day, introducing a whole new niche in Hawaii’s design industry.

Recognizing the impact of the unstable global economy, this different business model, in the design world, offers top-notch design experience to homeowners and businesses interested in an affordable redesign of their space in a matter of hours.

Founded in July 2008, Designer for a Day uses the client’s existing furniture, art and accessories to quickly transform and reinvigorate living and commercial spaces. We identified a lot of things in our new business model that work better than the traditional way that we were doing things, and it made us excited about the idea of working with what people already have in their homes. Complementing each other in personality, experience and work ethic, we believed the concept could work well. This concept incorporates a valuebased fee structure, offering more flexibility and options to homeowners, which is different from traditional design projects. Whether a consultation or design work that takes a half day or full day, we’re happy to customize projects to fit the homeowner’s needs. Introducing this novel approach, Designer for a Day strives to make interior design projects more accessible and less intimidating to people and most importantly, to offer a service that is both affordable and fun.

The service is about unveiling an amazing living space transformation in less than a day, without the usual time and costs associated with major home remodeling. Sometimes it can be challenging, but we embrace it as a good dose of daily exercise. In the next few years, we envision reaching more homes and businesses, introducing our brand of design magic to the people of Hawaii. We’re working harder now than we’ve ever worked before, and with each day we’re soaking up new things and look forward to growing our unique business in the long term.
