As a kama’aina company with deep roots in Hawaii, D.R. Horton-Schuler Division understands the importance of working with the community to create homes and neighborhoods that enhance the quality of life here in our Islands. We feel honored when we can help local residents by building their dream homes, which we have done for more than 10,000 island families.
Our company recently enabled new homeowners to move into our two newest Kapolei communities La Hiki and Pulewa at Mehana featuring a number of planning innovations, including a “livework” option that allows residents to live in the unit above their work space, eliminating the need to commute to work.

Once again, D.R. Horton-Schuler Division is planning to make home ownership and living in a unique, walkable and sustainable community a reality with Ho’opili. We looked to community groups and leaders from West Oahu to help shape a vision for a new kind of community: One that improves the quality of people’s lives by giving them the opportunity to live, work, learn, shop and play all in their own neighborhood. Ho’opili is first of its kind in several ways. Residents of this mixed-use, transit-ready community on 1,554 acres between Kapolei, Ewa and Waipahu will have access to homes, businesses, parks and schools within a short 10-minute walk. Designed to fit into the overall vision for the Ewa area, Ho’opili will include transportation options that connect its many parts and also link it to the greater region and surrounding areas. Ho’opili is also the first community in Hawaii to integrate food production including small farms, community and home gardens as part of its design. The development is expected to create 7,000 permanent jobs in West Oahu.
We could not have planned this project without the close guidance of community leaders who have been heavily involved in shaping its concept. Pending approval, Ho’opili will begin construction in 2013, bringing the community’s vision into full fruition. In addition to the investments made as part of the Ho’opili and Mehana communities, the people of D.R. Horton-Schuler Division are always looking for ways to support the vision that business and education leaders share for the region. We are deeply committed to helping this community create a bright future, and we, along with the Schuler Family Foundation, have already contributed more than $1 million over the last decade to education through numerous initiatives statewide.
We will continue to build high quality homes, neighborhoods and, in the case of Ho’opili, entire communities that make this island home of ours an even better place to live.
