This has been a green year for us at Armstrong Builders, with sustainable building a very important element of our overall business development strategy. It is clear to us that green building is where our industry is heading, and buyers will expect builders to include these practices. By committing to green building early and adopting it as a standard, we have not only carved out a competitive edge, but also reinforced that sustainable building is the most responsible way to build.

Building sustainably used to be just about helping the environment, but now it’s also about saving money. Innovative green technology makes homes more affordable to maintain by increasing energy efficiency, while reducing waste, pollution and environmental degradation. By building projects that are resource-efficient and environmentally responsible, we reduce the strain on the environment and drive costs down for home and business owners.

Although sustainable building is not our only area of expertise, it’s a field on which we’ve capitalized because it benefits everyone. Two of our most recent projects, Kumuhau and La’i Opua, are environmentally friendly residential communities that we built in partnership with the state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. Combining modern technology with Hawaii’s natural renewable resources, the homes range from three to five bedrooms and offer a number of green features, such as solar photovoltaic panels, whole house fans, rainwater harvesting systems, dual flush toilets, high-quality insulation, and low-VOC paints, flooring and carpet. These green features provide the homeowner with the tools to live comfortably and affordably for generations to come.

By building green and aspiring to the standards of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) we have been able to achieve great success. We currently have five LEED accredited professionals on staff and are continually training more. We also have earned 10 Gold and one Silver LEED certifications along with Grand Awards in the EcoHome Awards and Dream Home Awards for our green building practices.

We are committed to enhancing the landscape and environment in Hawaii through the work we do. As residents of Hawaii we feel compelled to construct buildings that benefit the natural environment and allow residents to live comfortably and sustainably.

We are proud to be involved in making Hawaii a greener place, where people can live and work happily, healthily and sustainably. For more information, call 848-2484 or visit facebook.com/pages/Armstr ong-BuildersHawaii/159971367386666.
