General Manager for Kahala Mall

My responsibility as general manager of Kahala Mall includes supporting the merchants so they can succeed. It also includes keeping an eye on the competition, so it may surprise many that Kahala Mall has teamed up with friendly crosstown competitor Pearlridge Center.

The reason is a no-brainer. The two malls are partnering on a promotion that will earn our customers quadruple (yes, quadruple!) HawaiianMiles.

The unique partnership of Kahala Mall and Pearlridge Center will give customers even more value for their purchases with the “Buy. Buy. Blue Sky!” program for the two Monday-through-Thursday periods between Feb. 9 and 19.

From Feb. 9 through 12 and Feb. 16 through 19, customers at Pearlridge Center and Kahala Mall can earn four HawaiianMiles for each dollar spent at any store, restaurant or theater. As many as 2,000 miles ($500 in total same-day receipts) may be earned per person per day. The quadruple miles program kicks in with a minimum of $100 in receipts, excluding tax and tips, and miles will be posted to HawaiianMiles accounts within six weeks.

Now back to the no-brainer. Why would general managers of competing shopping centers consider working together? Fred Paine and I agree that in tough economic times, we need to be creative in the way we approach business. Whether you are a retailer, schoolteacher or flight attendant, we all need to recognize that these days, nothing can be “business as usual.”

Merchants everywhere found 2008 a more challenging year than 2007, so we at Kahala Mall and Fred’s team at Pearlridge Center faced similar questions: How do we continue to provide customers with the value that they need as they endure the impact of a down economy? And, how do we support our respective merchants in tough times?

The answer: Buy. Buy. Blue Sky!

I knew that our customers at Kahala Mall would love to earn four HawaiianMiles for every dollar spent at Whole Foods or our other 90 merchants. But wouldn’t our customers love it even more if they could stretch that value across the island? They can also earn four HawaiianMiles for every dollar spent at at Toys R Us, INspiration and Pearlridge’s other 200 merchants.

Each mall has its own HawaiianMiles redemption center for shoppers to redeem their same-day, same-mall credits between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. Kahala Mall’s is in front of Claire’s, while Pearlridge Center’s is Uptown near Center Court. To keep things easy, shoppers should bring their HawaiianMiles cards, or know their account numbers.

To learn more about Kahala Mall, Pearlridge Center or the “Buy. Buy. Blue Sky!” HawaiianMiles promotion, please visit our combined 300 merchants for official details. Certain types of purchases do not qualify for HawaiianMiles. Until you can come see us in person, please visit pearlridgeonline.com or kahalamallcenter.com for more information on all of our programs. Each center’s Web site includes a merchant directory so shoppers can plan the shopping route that will help them earn their way to a travel route using HawaiianMiles.
