Shipping Donuts, Dolphins
By Tracy Reasoner
Vice President Passenger & Cargo Services for Transair
“Transair? What do you do?”
That was the question I heard over and over again at the recent Hawaii Lodging, Hospitality & Foodservice Expo.
It was Transair’s first year with a booth at the Expo, and people were intrigued -and very excited - to learn that a locally owned air cargo company could offer such hugely varied services to accommodate their shipping needs.
Moving freight interis-land largely goes unnoticed, primarily because a high quantity of cargo and packages are moved throughout the night. Five of our seven aircraft are flying throughout the night to all of Hawaii’s major destinations. Since 1982, our company has grown from one aircraft with one pilot owner to a fleet of seven aircraft with many pilots, mechanics, loaders and administrative staff, allowing us to serve all of the Hawaiian Islands.
Why do we do it? Talk to any pilot and they will tell you that flying is more than a job - it is a passion. From the company’s owner to the cargo loader, passion is what drives Transair.

Knowing why you do what you do creates a passion, which is contagious. Whether we are shipping a box of Krispy Kreme donuts or transporting dolphins for a major hotel, Transair abides by the same four basic principles:
* Show up: Be present and aware. From being on time to being completely aware of your environment, safety is always the No. 1 priority.
* Be open: Don’t ignore anything, and be completely open to change. Flexibility allows you to get the job done, no matter the circumstances.
* Serve what is true: Take the time to do what is right. Don’t cut corners. Be true to yourself. These tenets will ultimately translate into better service for the customer and the company alike.
*Receive the results: Don’t ignore, be defensive or judgmental. Let the results speak for themselves. Take responsibility for yourself and your team.
Simple as these four principles are, they can often take years to master. When you discover your “why,” a passion will arise that will take your life and business to new heights. In Hawaii, Transair is taking interisland cargo to new heights.
