Taking The POS Hawaii Helm

President of POS Hawaii

Every day thousands of people across the state make purchases in retail stores and restaurants - and many never think twice about the technology that is used to place the order, record the sale, aid in accounting, keep inventory and process the credit card.

My father-in-law is Maury Myers, former Aloha Airlines CEO. While officially “retired,” he stays active on boards and in community affairs, and recently asked me to partner with him to purchase a local company.

Together, we recently bought POS Hawaii, the state’s leader in providing point-of-sale systems for local restaurants and retail outlets. POS Hawaii has the privilege to serve many of the state’s top companies - including ABC Stores, Shirokiya, Longhi’s Restaurants and Education Works - with a unique blend of hardware and software expertise as well as superior service and professionalism that have distinguished the company over the years.

As the president of POS Hawaii, one of my immediate priorities is to survive the recession and to come out as a stronger company. Having previously worked for major corporations including IBM and ADP, I have learned that business downturns force you to reevaluate everything you do, from sales to production to cash management, and this is especially important for a small business here in Hawaii.

While we are investing a significant amount of capital to revitalize POS Hawaii and take the business to the next level, we are simultaneously forcing ourselves to be more efficient and work smarter. What we are learning will ultimately benefit us as sales pick up in a more robust economy. Most importantly, we are asking our customers what they want and then finding a way to be the best at fulfilling those needs.

In the long run, I believe that advances in technology will be the driving force for the industry and for company growth. As improvements in technology are made to measure service, keep inventory and increase employee productivity, POS Hawaii is committed to staying on top of these trends and providing our clients with the access and know-how to utilize these products. Even in what appears to be the simplest business, I believe technology is the key to success and continuous improvement.

POS Hawaii has been in business for close to 20 years under the leadership of its founder, Patrick Adams. I have the utmost respect for Pat, who established POS Hawaii as the well-known and highly regarded business that it is today. Pat plans to stay on with the company as a consultant, and I look forward to working with him to expand the company’s operations.

Having lived in Hawaii for many years, our family - including my wife Tracy and two energetic sons, ages 8 and 9 - have deep ties to the community.

I am convinced that POS Hawaii has much to offer local businesses and look forward to working with them to meet their point-of-sale needs.
