The Perfect Place For Solar
By Pete Cooper
Regional Director of SolarCity
When SolarCity launched in Hawaii July 11, it became the first full-service solar power provider in the state, providing solar financing, design, local installation, repair and energy efficiency services from a single source.
Our expansion to Hawaii was logical: We live in one of the best places in the world for solar.
With homeowners and businesses paying some of the highest electricity rates in the country, combined with the abundance of yearround sun, it made both financial and environmental sense.
SolarCity’s goal is to provide consumers with clean energy solutions that are less expensive than electricity generated from highly polluting foreign hydrocarbon-based power. We offer an extensive variety of financing options that fit every home and budget, all while allowing customers to save money from day one. We’ve found that this is especially important because while some people are willing to pay cash for “green” power, others are better able to lease solar both deliver an immediate financial return. For this reason, we guarantee that we deliver the best value of any solar provider on Oahu.

As a 40-year resident of Hawaii, one of the things that excites me most about joining the SolarCity team is the company’s genuine commitment to the local community and economy. We have already hired 35 local residents, and we expect to hire 55 to 65 more through the end of this year. We’ve also opened a local base of operations, with a warehouse facility in Mililani. An integral component of our business strategy is this local presence, which, combined with our full-service philosophy, allows us to provide the best possible customer service.
At the local level, we’re involved in all aspects of the solar process, from design and installation to financing and monitoring. We’re here on the ground to provide assistance, offering peace of mind and immediate access to our customers. Our business philosophy stems from our desire to help not only homeowners, but also the entire community. We want to see schools, churches, businesses and homeowners adopt clean power so that they are able to better protect themselves from rising gas and electricity costs, and defend the environment from polluting power.
In short, we care about making Hawaii a greener place to live, work and play where people can rely less on polluting power and solar is a great way to start.
