The winners of the third 2006 World Series of Video Games (WSVG) event have been announced. This is exciting considering this entire event is the very first international video game competition circuit to hit multiple gaming platforms. The WSVG circuit consists of eight national and international events where the top two winners of each category are flown to a final tournament. The final will be held later on this year, and the ultimate video game champions will be crowned.

The top winner of CounterStrike 1.6, Complexity, took home $40,000 plus another $5,100 for also beating everyone at Day of Defeat. CounterStrike 1.6’s second place winner Alternate aTTax won $27,000, and third place winner Fnatic banked $20,000. Quake 4’s king, Johan “toxic” Quick, went home with $20,000, and second place Allessandro “stermy” Avallone won $15,000, while third place Alexander “Ztrider” Ingrav took home $10,000. And who says playing video games doesn’t pay off? Try telling these guys that.

This third U.S.

circuit happening (The Intel Summer Championship) was a four-day event held a couple weeks ago (July 6-9) in Grapevine, Texas. There were 15,280 in attendance, with WSVG Founder Matt Ringel and Dell chairman Michael Dell presenting the prizes. I was just in the good ol’ Lone Star state, and I’m disappointed that I missed this excitement!

As the event’s primary sponsor, Intel showcased the Intel Core 2 Duo architecture as the future of competitive gaming. While I was playing Quake 4 at the recent Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), I saw this chip in action, and I can’t wait to acquire one for myself.

The competition at the Intel Championship was intense, with 1,000-plus gamers competing for the $225,000 in cash and prize winnings. There was a massive Dance Dance Revolution contest and a Geometry Wars tournament. Also, the Bring-Your-Own-Computer LAN party had 1,500-plus participants.

This circuit coincided with the World Cup Finals and Wimbledon, so sports fans could test their skills in related video game competitions. Also held were the “Break Into The Video Games Biz” seminars for the more serious gamers, or those looking for a career in gaming and technology industries. Intel also had presentations on “How To Build Your Own Laptop” and mobile gaming. Microsoft had one regarding Xbox Live service.

The WSVG was founded by Games Media Properties, the worldwide leader of video game competitions, tournaments and festivals. To find out more about the WSVG and more results, log onto www.thewsvg.com.
