There’s often a lot to do before a couple says “I do” - not the least of which is choosing the perfect ring.
“My wife and I felt there was a need for a place that couples could shop without feeling pushed and pressured,” explains Michael Han, The Wedding Ring Shop president and founder.
“It’s a sensitive time for a man,” continues Han.
“He is entering an unchartered stage of his life. He is looking for a ring to show his commitment and his love, and at the same time he is unsure of what he is buying. He’s also nervous about getting married - period. Getting married is a very unique, life-changing and positive experience. Being the place for this important purchase is the key to our success.”
The Wedding Ring Shop moved in March to an elegant 7,200-square-foot corner emporium on Kapiolani and Pensacola from its 18-year location at Ala Moana Center.
“Traffic has increased in qualified buyers,” says Han. “There’s less people just casually looking around because they have some time to kill.”
With 12 staffers already on board, Han says they plan to add 20 percent more staff this year. Han designed the concept for the store, which, he says, is going to be a prototype for the future. He intends to test and develop new concepts every year to increase the shop’s retail and marketing techniques. For example, they may offer sales associates the educational opportunity to visit the South African diamond mines.
“We wanted to build a company where we are servicing customers in an extraordinary way in a place that’s comfortable, in a way that people can trust us, and where we are building long-lasting relationships,” says Han. “We have patience with our customers, and we give them as much information as possible.
We don’t try to persuade them that this item won’t be here if they don’t get it now. Our sales are based on good relationships, not numbers of transactions.”
The McKinley grad already had more than 20 years of experience in the fine jewelry business when he started The Wedding Ring Shop in 1987 with his wife, Rebecca, a gemologist and a former diamond buyer for Liberty House.
The boutique also carries earrings, pendants, necklaces, bracelets and other jewelry accessories for gifts for birthdays and other celebrations. The Wedding Ring Shop also offers custom designs, which can feature pearls, diamonds, rubies and sapphires.
The Wedding Ring Shop is located at 1181 Kapiolani Blvd. The hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 945-7766, or log onto weddingringshop.com.
