After seeing how hard her dad works as the owner of an automobile repair shop, Kelly Sugano decided she would never own a small business. She promised herself that she’d always work for someone else.

But since then she has broken her own promise, and these days she owns not one, but two businesses.

Sugano says that, above all else, she just wants to help other small-business people, and that’s how she came up with the idea of opening My Office. It’s a place where she helps small-business owners by offering them secretarial support, a furnished professional office space and two conference rooms to rent.

“I know how hard it is (to run a small business), and all the sweat and tears that you put into it,” she says.

During her four-year ownership of A Perfect Day wedding planning company, she’d often have her meetings in public places, where the Roosevelt graduate often faced problems with parking, and may have had to conduct her meeting in the noisy environment of a diner or coffee house.

“I had to arrive 45 minutes early to my appointment,” she laments. “Then I’d have to find a table for our meeting. Since I may not have met these folks before, I’d be asking random people if I am meeting with them.”

Each of the offices available at My Office come with a desk, three chairs, a flat-screen TV, phone and wireless Internet.

For its members, My Office will confirm appointments one day prior. Other member services include a phone call when mail arrives at the office, and a virtual assistant to prepare meeting handouts, send faxes, make photocopies and scan documents. A customized name plate is put on the office or conference room. Pastries and beverages are also provided for meetings.

The Wahiawa resident credits the support of all of her friends and family, and especially the love of her husband Michael.

“I don’t know what I’d do without him,” she says.

He came up with the company name for both businesses, and designed the myofficehi.com website.

Mary Cachuela serves as the office manager, and each of the two full-time and two part-time employees belong to four or five business organizations.

Sugano says she’s always asking her customers for feedback on how to improve through evaluation forms, and discussing what they may be looking for.

“We have to think of how to make things better,” she says.

My Office is located at 1019 Waimanu St., Suite 101. The hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. For more information, call 591-8110 or log onto www.myofficehi.com
