Combining good food and goodwill, Romano’s Macaroni Grill launched its MAC FUNDRAI$ER program last month as a way to help nonprofit organizations, schools and sports teams raise money. And there’s no better way to raise funds than with the restaurant’s classic Italian dishes, original pasta creations, Neapolitan pizzas and more.
The program allows groups to select a day to host their fundraiser. Any customer who dines at the restaurant on that day can participate in the event simply by letting their server know that they are there to support the group. Then, the organization receives 20 percent of the proceeds.
“This is our first year doing this program, and we’re really excited about it,” says Emi Chang Espinda, Romano’s regional director of sales and marketing. “It’s our way of giving back to the community.”
The crew was inspired to start MAC FUNDRAI$ER because they know how hard fundraising can be, and they wanted to lend a helping hand. With school back in session, Espinda says, many groups are looking for fundraising opportunities.
“This program can really reach the entire gamut of organizations that are out there. We feel that this is our way of supporting our community ... especially the youths of our community,” she says. “We want to be able to support the different schools and organizations.”
Especially in today’s economy, general manager Kunani Blake adds, fundraising for a variety of causes can be challenging.
Romano’s Macaroni Grill also participates in a breadth of other community service activities. Recently, the restaurant supported Central Union Church’s annual fundraiser and served food at Ko Olina Taste At Kapolei, which raises scholarship money for aspiring college students. Romano’s also has a program called the Noodle Award. Teachers and coaches can give students and players a Noodle Award, which they can redeem at the restaurant for a complimentary child’s meal, for things like good grades.
Romano’s Macaroni Grill is located at Ho’okipa Terrace in Ala Moana.
