Because I Said So
Reiko Keifert
Owner, Matchmaking Introductions Hawaii
As Told To Melissa Moniz
Where and with whom did you see the movie?
We went to the Ward Theater, myself and my company’s marketing manager and our husbands. So the four of us went.
Overall what did you think of the movie?
Overall the movie was interesting, entertaining and fun.It doesn’t involve too much thinking, you just watch and enjoy.
Was it a great date movie?
I would have to say so.
Did you have a favorite scene?
The most interesting part was when the mother, how she put the personal ad for her daughter and she was meeting all the guys who responded to the ad. And one after another they meet, and it was just disappointment after disappointment. It was nothing against the guys, but they just weren’t working for her daughter. The series of men who appeared for the interview was interesting.
So with your matchmaking service, do you get a lot of parents who come in wanting to find someone for their son or daughter?
Sometimes, but it’s very, very rare.
Was the storyline realistic?
You know, I think that was our focus, too, when we were watching the movie because we saw the mother as ourselves - matchmakers. You know how the mother wanted to find the right person for the daughter, she did her best to meet as many men as she could to find the right person. The problem is that the mother didn’t quite understand what the daughter wanted,so she sees men with her own values. And so the men the mother chose weren’t all so bad, but they weren’t the right one.
Do you find that being the biggest challenge with your business, having to find a match for someone who doesn’t exactly know what they are looking for?
That’s why we have a counseling process. We do personality analysis and then we have a counseling process that we really, really stress. It’s really important so that we understand what each client is looking for. Another thing is that in this movie the daughter didn’t have any opportunities to meet people, that’s why the mother tried to create the meeting, and it’s the same thing here. The daughter was lucky in the movie because she got to see two men at the same time - two very different men. One was very successful and I guess financially stable, and the other one is a good heart and a good personality, however he happens to be divorced and have a son living with him. The daughter is able to compare and find the right person because seeing one person makes her understand what’s lacking in the other person. In the matchmaking process it’s similar, and what we do is we can match our clients with more than two people,so the person can find out who is the right person for himself or herself. This is very different than the dating situation because when you’re dating you don’t normally meet two people at the same time, so it’s a different approach.
How would you rate the acting?
I think the acting was great.Everyone fit the character. Especially the mother was entertaining. It doesn’t matter if you like the mother or not, it was really entertaining to watch. I think because divorce is so common in America that there are so many people who can relate to this scenario.
In a four star rating, with four being the highest, what would you rate it?
I would rate the movie three stars.
What’s your favorite movie snack?
I don’t eat at the movies.
What’s your favorite movie of all
Erin Brockovich.
Who’s your favorite actor or actress?
Robert De Niro.
