Su Shin And Dan Meisenzahl
Meisenzahl: KITV News Anchor, Shin: VP of Strategic Alliances for Waimana Enterprises Inc.

as told to Kerry Miller

Where and with whom did you see the movie?

Su: We saw it at Koko Marina with our daughters, Maya, 9, and Kayla, 6.

Overall, what did you both think?

Su: I was actually pleasantly surprised.I don’t watch the TV show or anything,so I didn’t know what to expect, but it was cute.

Dan: I was really surprised.I was kind of almost kicking and screaming going there - I wasn’t looking forward to it at all. It was corny, but still a charming movie. Miley Cyrus shined. She’s got some star power.

What did your daughters think?

Dan: They said,in unison,“It was great.”

How does Miley Cyrus fare as an actress?

Su: I think that she was really natural and believable. Not exactly an Oscar level performance, but that wasn’t the intent of the movie. It’s geared toward that tween audience. I think she did just fine.

Dan: She seemed like a natural comedian. I’m sure I’ll get grief for saying this, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s an Oscar-winning actress one day. She definitely has the world at her feet, she’s a pro.

Were there other actors or actresses in the movie that you or your daughters recognized?

Dan: Vanessa Williams was in it.She played Miley Cyrus’agent.Tyra Banks had a great cameo in it that was just hilarious.

Was there a song in the movie’s sound-track that you particularly liked?

Su: There was a really fun song Hoedown Showdown. The did all kinds of dances to it. The song itself was really catchy. There was this ballad she did with her dad. I’ve never heard any of her songs. I was like,“She’s not bad.”

Dan: They do like every genre of dance, and halfway through the song the dad suddenly knows the words (laughs). There were three really decent songs.

What about the movie’s storyline - as an adult, did it keep your interest? Was there any message or meaning for young people?

Su: The underlying message is about not getting wrapped up in all the material things, the fame, shoes, clothes, but to know who you are inside and to be true to yourself.

Dan: It was kind of ironic because the story goes into the dad trying to put the brakes on her going into the superstar thing, when at the same time the dad is trying to make her a super-star in real life. The story line was pretty weak. There’s a lot of over acting in it,not from Miley Cyrus, but others.

Did your daughters have a favorite scene or character?

Kayla: My favorite part was when she sang the song Hoedown Showdown.

Maya: That was my favorite too.

I like Hannah Montana.

On a scale of 1-4 stars, what would you rate this movie?

Dan and Su: ★★★

Who would you recommend this movie to?

Su: Probably kids around the same age as our daughters.

Dan: Parents can go and feel safe, there’s no violence or anything to worry about.

What’s new?

Su: I just started a new job as Vice President of Strategic Alliances for Waimana Enterprises Inc.

Dan: I’m still an anchor on KITV, 5-7 a.m. every weekday. That way I can be with my kids in the afternoon.
