Renee Nobriga
Miss Hawaii USA 2010

Where and with whom did you see the movie?

I saw it at Ward with my boyfriend Matt Voorhies.

Overall, what did you think?

It was a pretty funny movie. There are some really funny parts and some “Whoa! Where did that come from?” parts, but it had a good ending with a good little moral lesson: “Don’t wander or linger too much in the past; be happy with the present.”

On a scale of one to four stars, what would you rate this movie?

Ooh,that’s a tough one.I’d give it like ★★★, because I didn’t absolutely love it, but I did like it. I enjoyed it.

How was the acting? Did anyone stand out?

The acting was great! They were all hilarious, but I think Craig Robinson (Nick) and John Cusack (Adam) were really funny and made the movie.

Did the soundtrack contribute significantly to the film?

I like how it (the music) went from the current time back to the ‘80s (1986), and it was fun to hear the music from the ‘80s again.

Was the storyline easy to follow?

It was a pretty solid storyline from beginning to end. There wasn’t really a climactic part, though. I was kinda waiting for something big to happen, but it never did.The only bad thing then, I guess, was that it was kind of anti-climactic. But a hot tub time machine is a funny idea for a plot.

Did the movie live up to the hype of its previews?

Personally I think the movie got a little more hype in the previews than it should have, but just a little. The previews made it seem so awesome, but it was just kind of over-hyped. I wasn’t blown away, but my boyfriend loved it, and I’d watch it again.

Without giving away the ending, what was one of your favorite scenes?

There was this part where in the end Craig Robinson is singing this Black Eyed Peas song, which is from today’s day and age, but he’s singing it in the ‘80s and everyone’s like “What is this?” It was really funny. I also liked when they (the four main characters) went snow-boarding and they thought they were in the present time, and everyone is whizzing by and they’re all in ‘80s gear, and they don’t realize yet that they’re in the past. But all the retro gear the people from the ‘80s had was cool.

To whom would you recommend this movie?

You can really recommend this one to a younger or an older crowd. There were a couple of nude scenes, so not too young, but then, too, I think that guys would like this a lot. It’s not really a date movie, but it’s fun either way.

On a different note, what’s new with you?

Well, I’m going to Vegas in May for the Miss USA Pageant to compete as Miss Hawaii. I also want to plug my boyfriend’s band,Ill Valley, because they’re playing a show April 16 at Breakers on the North Shore. Their style is island hip-hop and dance music. Then April 17 I’m volunteering at the Hawaii Foodbank food drive, so come out and support that as well!
