WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!
Look for flamboyant Cher at
Caesar’s Palace in 2008
CHERILYN Sarkisian LaPierre, better known as Cher, is saying she will replace Celine Dion at Caesar’s Palace in 2008. One of the diva’s many records is the gap between No. 1 hit songs, Dark Lady in 1974 to Believe in 1999 - the year she beat Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On for song of the year. With her vast concert, movie and stage experience, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of show she creates.
TIGER JAM, the annual concert/auction fund-raiser at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, raised more than $1.5 million. If you happened to see 60 Minutes a couple of weeks ago, you’ll understand why Tiger Woods says The Tiger Woods Learning Centers are his passion. He wants to open one in every city and country around the world. Some of the hot auction items: a round of golf for three with Donald Trump ($37,000), a meet-and-greet with Sting in New York ($65,000), and a putting lesson with Tiger ($155,000). Woods also bought the private poker lesson and dinner with Phil Ivey for $50,000. He can afford it. Rumor has it that, thanks to his blackjack acumen, he’s up $500,000.
John Daly: addicted to
slots
IN HIS new book, pro golfer John Daly talks about his gambling addiction ... says he’s lost $60 million gambling. His poison of choice: the $5,000 slot machine ... maybe he oughta hang more with Tiger.
THE QUESTION I get asked the most? “Is gambling on the Internet legal?” This week on Kimo’s Vegas, ex-pat I. Nelson Rose, the foremost expert on the subject, tells what is, Thursday morning at 9 on Sports Radio 1420.
Michael McDonald joins in
on a Steely Dan reunion
July 22
MAUI ISLE resident Walter Becker joins his partner Donald Fagen and ex-band mate Michael McDonald for a Steely Dan reunion July 22 at the Aladdin Theater. Part of a 32-city tour, I wonder if fellow MidWeek columnist and concert promoter Uncle Tom Moffatt will bring them here?
RALPH LOO sends in the Vegas Tip: Senior citizens (62+) can get a reduced fare, five-year CAT (the Vegas version of Da Bus) card by registering at the terminal. A $2 fare is $1, and the $1.25 Route 108 (shuttle to Monorail and Fashion Mall) is 60 cents. Route 108 is never crowded for the ride from Strip (on Paradise) to downtown like the “Deuce,” and comes every 20 minutes during regular hours.
GET MORE Kimo’s Vegas in the weekend MidWeek, online at Oceanic Cable’s Around Hawaii and with Brickwood Galuteria Friday morning at 7:20 on Hawaiian105 KINE.
