THE TROPICANA gets a new daddy ... Columbia Sussex Corp. has officially bought Aztar Corp., the company that owns the 34-acre Tropicana Hotel & Casino at one of the Strip’s busiest intersections. It is forking out $51 a share ($2.01 billion total) to end a two month bidding war for one of the last great Strip properties that can be redeveloped.

MR. VEGAS, Wayne Newton, ends his run at the Flamingo Hotel on July 1. Seven-time Grammy winner Toni Braxton will headline the room six nights a week starting Aug. 1 in a full-scale musical production called Toni Braxton: Revealed.

In September, the second tower will open featuring the first new Playboy Club in 25 years.

Or you can join the carnival at Circus Circus for $39 a night, or stay in a suite at the Venetian for $129 a night.
