WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... the Player’s Edge!
THE TROPICANA gets a new daddy ... Columbia Sussex Corp. has officially bought Aztar Corp., the company that owns the 34-acre Tropicana Hotel & Casino at one of the Strip’s busiest intersections. It is forking out $51 a share ($2.01 billion total) to end a two month bidding war for one of the last great Strip properties that can be redeveloped.

MR. VEGAS, Wayne Newton, ends his run at the Flamingo Hotel on July 1. Seven-time Grammy winner Toni Braxton will headline the room six nights a week starting Aug. 1 in a full-scale musical production called Toni Braxton: Revealed.
KIMO’S VEGAS debuts on OC16 May 29 at 9 p.m. Join us as we visit with Punahou grad, Miss Fitness USA Sara Harding Traverso backstage at KA!. We’ll also check out the only restaurant in North America that serves Hawaiian grass-fed beef, and show you what kind of experience you’ll have in a room that costs $800 a night at the new Signature at MGM Grand.
THE SKY Villas at the Palms have just been opened to the public ... but it’s not for everyone. If charging up to $40,000 for a single night’s stay on your AMEX makes you nervous, then these suites are not for you (or me either). In September, the second tower will open featuring the first new Playboy Club in 25 years.
PEOPLE ARE always asking me how to get the best room rates in Vegas. Visit your favorite hotel’s website (go to www.KimosVegas.com and click on maps, you can then go directly to any Las Vegas hotel). Sign up for its online newsletter and in a couple of weeks you’ll get the hotel’s best rates for non-rated players. For example, the New York, New York has a $79 room rate that includes a room upgrade, twofor-one breakfast, spa and lunch, and two rollercoaster passes. Or you can join the carnival at Circus Circus for $39 a night, or stay in a suite at the Venetian for $129 a night.
Rita Rudner is on a roll at

RITA RUDNER has sold more than 650,000 tickets since she started at the New York, New York in 2001. Still time to check out her show - it’s been extended through Aug. 26.
CONGRATS TO Tony Pacheco of Mililani on winning the Horseshoe’s No Limit Texas Hold ‘em Tournament. In addition to the T-shirt proclaiming his victory, he’s won a seat in the Tournament of Champions on June 6. Keep up the hot play and we’ll keep an eye out for you at the World Series of Poker!
